superdude: wheel bike to Trafalgar sq, take wheels off there, get people to carry those while you carry the rest on your back? I'll take a wheel for ya. Only thing is you have to get from pub to home at the other end, you local?
You are right. My back is a bit fucked today so I will put it on my before I leave as a test run and decide whether I can suitably htfu or not. See you for the compass bit. I'm in Brixtopn so I can re-assemble at the pub or on the way past my house. Cheers Skully.

Wanted to have a go on the off chance, is anyone going to South's from Soho area tonight and hasn't got their bike (I know, unlikely)?
People at work have started noticing the bikes I have been storing at work in all empty spaces. I just had a thought that someone might like to earn a beer by enjoying riding one of them down to Brixton with me tonight on the way to save me (and them) having to get shitty public transport. I can meet someone by Trafalgar Square for the compass jobby thing?

£3 donation a year is nothing. I'd be down with that. I'd agree with everyone who's been saying that there might various boring legal/administrative hurdles that you were heading for further down the line.
Personally, if VB makes an annual plea for donations, non-subscription related, I would probably donate more than £3 depending on how skint I was at the time.
Either way works for me, I just figure community 'donations' won't have the related monotonous administration, arguments and legal requirements that a subscription 'fee' would have.
But I don't really have any objection to the original proposal anyway. If it keeps the forum running I'm in to it.

I've never posted a wanted ad before. Maybe I have. I don't remember. Does it work?
I need a 1" headset spacer that grabs the brake cable for cantilever brakes and v-brakes. I don't know the technical term.
I'm also looking for a bike trailer, anything considered. No idea where I would keep one but I'm always coming up with ideas that involve them.
Cheers.

@doubletap, I can't find anyone who's written about it on t'internet so I'm afraid I'm not sure. I have discovered they're definately not Dura Ace 17mm though. No need to bring a heavy set though, maybe I'll just bring it down tonight and ask everyones advice then plead to borrow tools again next week.
Cheers!

Hello all! I was just wondering if anyone was coming down tonight who might be able to help me out with a epic, 'trial and error', maintenance learning, zero cost fail.
I took apart a hub, (a loose bearing, Campag record hub), cleaned everything, re-packed it with loads and loads of good ceramic grease, put the old bearings back in, and now I'm at the stage where I'm doing the final adjustments and I just can't get it right. Always either too tight or with too much play.
I think the main reason is because I have no cone spanners and am improvising. And I'm also crap at it obviously.
Will swap beer tonight for guidance/cone spanners. Anyone?

Saw this in Berlin the other week and thought it was worth sharing pictures. Belt drive...

The wheelbuilding class sounds good. I'm not in but I would pay money for a hub servicing class after my failures today.
Lenni, the thread reminded me to think about getting a truing stand so I just thought you might want to see that it was much cheaper on ribble...

Think I might get one.

I picked up a Record Mavic build from the jumble on Saturday, the hub needs regreasing.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether there was a special procedure for the older style Campag record hubs. They have a grease hole in the middle of the hub covered up with a retaining clip and then it seems two grease hole one on each side of the hub.
It strikes me that it was maybe designed so you can pump grease into the central hole until you see clean grease coming out of the edge holes? This seems sensible because I would like to avoid taking the hub apart to re-grease, setting them back up afterwards is not my strong point.
Anyone done this before?
-
I have one somewhere. Its a Wolber hub and rim, high flange thing if I remember correctly. I took it apart and then re-built it as practice wheel building and my handy work isn't very good but it's truer than it was to begin with. I also think the axle is bent. But it might just need a service from someone who actually knows what they're doing.
It's free anyway if you would like it.

there are a few threads on this i think, but this actually happened to me today and the cop asked me if i wanted him to "scrape my remains off the road with a fork and mail them to my parents." i managed not to talk back.. but what a weirdo. a fork?
A fork? I would have thought some kind of wallpaper scraper might be more practical. Or a sheet of scrap metal or something.

YouTube - La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream's Let's Get Ravey Mix)
Love this remix. Bought it on vinyl for I don't know what reason. The original is the worst thing I've ever heard in my life though.
A favourite of mine...
YouTube - Coki - Ruff Lovin

I'm going to pop in shortly after that. Depends on work.
