Lots of people having their first cycling experiences with very little access to good quality cycle training at the moment.
@Clara was sensibly commissioned by (the) LCC to put this together to try and help less-experienced riders. If like me, you're lesser-cycling-friendship-groups come to you for advice, maybe it's helpful...

London's Famous @Clara has been charitably restoring bikes donated by local residents in our area and getting them roadworthy. Then, in an attempt to get more people to work in difficult times, giving them to care workers and hospital staff for the cost of any parts.
One of the donations is this very original Shopper. Given it's metallic poo-brown, has a chrome dynamo, headlight almost as big as a Rolls Royce, kick stand built into the frame and a great rack: We think it's probably more attractive to a mad person from an internet bicycle forum, than someone trying to get to work in a hospital during a pandemic. We just want to see it loved for its vintage charm.
Her waiting list also has a lot of >5'9" male key workers with little cycling experience on it, so it isn't really the right thing.
So, I propose a swap. Does anyone want this historic piece of design history? It's in generally decent nick. We'd be after any serviceable normal shaped bike in return, fine if it needs a service and some fresh cables, but no critical problems please. To be provided to someone in need.

In follow up to me trying to get hold of Steve at Aurum a few weeks ago. He did get back eventually. Gave brilliant advice and did an excellent job for not very much money. Highly recommended.
We talked about powder > decals > clearcoat. The clear coat in this scenario is a lot more expensive than the powder coat because you can't powder over the decals without melting the vinyl. So it has to be a wet spray on top. Hence the expense. He was more than happy to do it, but it wasn't the cheap option.

Oh nice. I didn't know Charge made one too.
@Lolo, thanks for the extensive review. They are super expensive for what they are I think. I was hoping they had a lot of versatility, like a Surly or something.
I'm coming round to the idea of putting the cash towards a powder coat and a new headset for a Raleigh instead.

Having said that. This is pretty fancy, although far too small...

Thanks @Aroogah. We've got transport.
Claira's car has been packed full of Btwin's with flat tires and step through Raleigh's with suicide levers for weeks now. All donated by locals in a terrible state then restored and serviced by Claira for health and social workers who need to be mobile in the community. Hoping to find her something a bit fancier to help karma along.

Claira hasn't been sailng through the pandemic with a cosy furlough. But she's managed to donate a lot of her time and money to trying to make London a better place to cycle for those that most need it.

She's taken a shine to a donated Raleigh mixte she built up for a social worker. So much so, she found a different bike for the social worker to keep the Raleigh for an extra week.
I think a key worker deserves the Raleigh, and she deserves something a bit better. Soma make (or made) a mixte, the Buena Vista.
I don't have the cash to buy a new one right now (is they do still make it). Has anyone got (or got a lead on) a used one? She's a 55cm.

Haha. These are definitely wrong for my bike but I love them so very much. DM me a price and your location? I will consider them certainly. @doubleodavey

Budget is probably ~£100. Looking for a small flange, shiny silver, freehub rear, road wheelset in good condition. 90s or maybe early 00s might be ideal?
It's going on a chrome/racing green frame, and I'll need to get a single speed kit for the rear too.
I remember picking up a Dura Ace 7400 / Mavic wheelset a good few years ago for £90. That'd be perfect. But I expect they've appreciated since then so maybe a bit pricey now.

A friend with poor taste is looking for a wheelset for his commuter, not high end, but in good cosmetic and serviceable condition. These are his foolish desires...
- Modern style (black with white decals on the rims)
- Small flange front hub
- Will be riding single speed, but would happily take a set of road wheels and use a single speed kit
- Campag with that awful spoke pattern like a spok on the rear would be great
- Black/white spoke mix is a winw
- Not very pricey, it's a commuter
So I think realistically for his budget, either a reasonably modern road wheelset with a freehub, or a set of those Mavic track wheels everyone used to use for practice might be cool? What you got?

Update
Considerable improvement by brewing at far too low a temperature and too coarse a grind. Still not a great coffee. But I have renewed enthusiasm. A more scientific process may ensue over the coming weeks.Register interest in my findings and I will share. I feel like this is a similar situation to a question I asked someone a while ago though...
ME: Pat, my new disc brakes squeal, how does one stop disc brakes squealing?
OLI: (butting in whilst slowing down effectively in the wet on a >20 year old mountain bike) Get rim brakes.
PAT: (no reply)

@Lolo Just saw this on eBay...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174414966946
It's too small for Claira, but I noticed the description said it would fit 650 or 700 wheels. Could it be that to get the frame clearance for a fatter tire, longer reach brakes and a 650 wheel was required?
