TNRC - North Downs ride : Tuesday 14th July 2009
The train to catch departs London Victoria 19:09. The usual early meet to obtain tickets, and to hopefully grab a good spot on the train as soon as it arrives from it's inward journey will be required. somewhere between platforms 1-7, these are on the far left hand side of the station as you enter.
Arrival in sunny St Mary Cray is scheduled for 19:35.
With that in mind, the return trains to London look something like this:
St Mary Cray-Victoria
22:07-22:32
22:26-23:03
22:47-23:14
22:56-23:23- Clintsmoker (train out)
- jonny
- Shootthebreeze (no pulled muscles from standing up this time i hope)
- miss tiks [train out]
- mrs marcom (victoria)
- Sam (will meet everyone at St Mary Cray)
- mikec (Liking the sound of this one. Is there a map?)
- mashton (victoria) - but I am flaky, you know. btw, last week I was in Copenhagen, apologies.
- Sasmon (Victoria)
- dave4 (If I can get to the station in time)
- balmain
- Clintsmoker (train out)

James, absolutely no need for you to feel in any way responsible; paceline, pothole, bad luck - could have happened anywhere/anytime. A bit of road rash makes a nice gnarly memento and the bump on the head won't be mentioned on the domestic front for fear of the dreaded helmet debate.
I'd realised that we were off route just after the roundabout, but wasn't close enough to the front to make a call. I thought you held it together well given the delays, but once we had lost that time on the trains it was always going to be a bit frantic.

-
Despite the unplanned stop towards the end, highly enjoyable evening all round - sterling work on the route amendment front from Jonny and James to keep things together. Tika, hope you're ok - sorry to have run over your lovely bike.
Tom's(?) expert dealing with the 'angriest commuter in the world' on the second train and Marco's refusal to be beaten by a mere triple puncture on a pitlocked wheel showed the TNRC spirit at its best.

On the way back from Vatternrundan that night so unfortunately out. Its a great ride, but as a rubbish climber and having done this ride a couple of times, I'd echo andyp's thoughts on gears - 42/26 was my friend more than once. Want to try it fixed sometime... but with more time and perhaps slightly slower company.

Brilliant Tuesday evening as ever, good to chat to old and new faces. Those lanes make a lovely route for a fast twilight ride. Cheers for the lead out to Roydon and respect to those who rode back. Bad luck with the clipless fall Tika - but less embarrassing than my beer induced one last week in front of a couple of hundred folk coming out of the Globe theatre.
Guy, found that Campag lockring, hopefully its the one you want. If you pm me with your address I'll post it over or drop it in as I go through Sheps Bush.

Hippy, can't help with a soldering iron, but the Roydon one is about 38 miles I think. Finished off at about 10:30 last time, so less than an hour in the dark and its not that dark with plenty of other good lights around.
On a different note, being directionally challenged getting out of London - anyone/groups riding up that I could tag along with again?

Quality evening as ever - good to meet new and old faces and see a mini peleton building up. Fantastic route for a summer evening ride and the sunset was an unexpected bonus. Thanks to BMMF and the mini group for the ride out to Roydon - must find that Epping Forest cut through section again.
Hope those CtoC and Alping it next week get some brilliant riding in. I'm not in the least bit envious...
-
Looks like the train will be a tad packed so will try and get to the meet on time and ride up. If I miss it I'll swing back to Liv St and take my chances on the train.

if0x, I was riding with mike e last Friday, as jonny says - top man. He was complaining about being the only fixed rider in Hull so sure would welcome the contact. He's also trying to put together a Hull based overnight ride in Aug/Sept that us soft southerners could get to - there's a thread on cyclechat somewhere.
Clint, here's one of those threads complaining about the cateye singleshot. There's been loads of problems with the mount and refunds/replacements given out without fuss. Apparently its being redesigned - still waiting for mine though so don't know if they've solved the problem.
