To round off this thread, and for reference of anyone with the same problem in the future…

This is what I got back from Kryptonite customer support:

Contact a locksmith and have them remove the lock for you. Once it is off, send the lock, keys, locksmith receipt & a note to the address below. They can replace the lock and refund the removal fee.
