It depends... for commuting I just wear regular clothes, nothing padded, but for longer rides I wear bibs (mens ones at the moment, just with the shoulder straps crossed on my chest faux assos style) or padded undershorts. I've personally found no real difference in comfort between knicks and commando, but then the furthest I've ridden in a day is only about 60 miles (though it was over cobbled Ronde van Vlaanderen routes, so not exactly easy going).
Padded undershorts are useful because they're cheaper than going the full bibs route (I personally hate cycling shorts, and womens bibs are stupidly expensive compared to blokes versions, which I massively resent), and you can chuck normal jeans and shorts over the top of them.

@souths massive in general, lambeth country show: worth going? i'll be picking records and stuff during the early afternoon (depending on time home from brighton) and may fancy some mini festival vibes.
There are worse ways to spend an afternoon :) Depends on your fondness for reggae, sheepdog displays, and novelty vegetable competitions though...

Lambeth Country Show for the morning / early afternoon, followed by Bright Times!
http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/Environment/ParksGreenSpaces/EventsInParks/LambethCountryShow2009Programme.htmHold and owl for a pound! Plus King Tubbys on Saturday lunchtime. I'll be on the field by the lido, with a rival sound system, some chucklehead cider and a frisbee...
Oh and the Victoria tube is closed this weekend for any walkengers.
Don't forget the goat milking, it's not a Country Show without ungulates :) Housemates and me are planning a cider and jerk chicken epic from the food stands, breakfast, lunch and early dinner, both days, be rude not since we only live across the road.

Probably been seen before, but this ad was on the back of the Country Show flier that was delivered in Lambeth today. I suppose it's something atleast, but the white space at the bottom seems like a missed opportunity to actually explain in a sentence or two why the left side of a lorry is a dangerous place - to a less-aware cyclist it could just seem like a general nag about not getting close to lorries, and doesn't address the left-turn issue at all. The photo is quite poor too, the perspective is odd, so I'm not sure if it's meant to be an example of a dangerous or safe road position...

Regular bus drivers seem to be pretty good on the whole.
Fucking tour bus wankers can rot forever in a pit of burning tar.
It's not just Central either, every 6.20pm on a Wednesday night the same convoy of 3 or 4 German tour coaches do their best to wipe out every cyclist on Brixton Road. Driving in the cycle lane and and stradling the white line at 50mph, moving across 2 lanes without indicating, and bowling through red lights to keep up with the coach in front is all fine apparently...

Wow, that beard has really grown in nicely now Smyth.
Celebs go 'fixie'...
