Thanks guys, that was well fun last night. and thankyou for making me feel right welcome. Not even achy today as i thought i would be, apart from a bruise in the abdomen from landing on the rather large handlebars in my first topple... Though it did take me quite a long time to calm down afterwards coz all my muscles were quivering,
I look forward to next week, and hopefully more chix!
that was WICK/RAD/FUKIN A etc etc.

mashton
Van Damage Sarah in Hatfeilds popping in to say hi: me popping in to spend more money than i have on a new back wheel for my old bike, it having inexplicably become über buckled over night. Talked trixs, but didn't work out what your name is on here... ?
Shame about the wheel, what happened?
dunno, no idea, was a tad kinky the day before, and i had noticed a little lump in the rim, which was blatantly gonna get terminal eventually, just happened sooner than i thought. maybe someone kicked it in the night... new wheel's great though. got a new chain and a new cassette as well...

Yep, I'm coming. Stelles been persuading me with whispers... I can't make the party tonight coz i'm in Cambridge, but i'll deffo come along on Tuesday, even though i'll only be on the brown smear (that's my bikes name- it's geared, and brown, and it's not got a very flattering nickname) to check out the chix and hopefully to find out about the gear ratio i'm gonna have...
have fun tonight!

and what do people think about Dia Compe Gran comp track hubs?
also, me and Mashton were thinking about having a go at building one each of my two wheels, coz he wants to learn and so do I now...
but obviously we'll need a pair of capable hands to check that we're doing it right.
Oh god, please don't go there. We really are just good friends.

oh, I was under the impression that when they powder coat it at first it's matt, and then they have to put on a couple of layers of clear to get it gloss. That's what it seemed they said to me at least, but i might have misunderstood...
either way, they definatly put a couple of layers of clear on my frame after the coloured powder coat.

mashton
Van Damage This is going to be so rad my eyes are falling off with excitement.
; )
dogsballs holy feck!! we'll be bull-dozing our way around london, like critical mass!
good work sol, em and estelle. need more chics though, although that decreases your chance of prize.
Well my birthday is on the 17th so might make this my birthday night. So hopefully all the chix will be out to ride pissed with me. But do i get a prize for being born two day's after the ride????? : )
I think Ms Damage is of the female variety?
Beth, get yourself into some Trixie Chix action...
yep yep, i'm on the case...

oh god, my brain is imploding: the more I find out about what goes into making decent wheels the more I feel paralysed by how much more there is to learn and understand, so the less i feel qualified to make any decision at all.
hubs: i should be looking up track or fixed hubs right? is there any other technical term i should be looking under? and I think i should be looking for ones without sealed bearing units? otherwise i can never get in there and sort them out if they go wrong.
rim wise: mavic open pros seem to be the shizzle: but why?

ok cool. done a bit more scouting out over the weekend and the guy i'm using: Adam from Perlie Rides(http://www.perlierides.com/) will be doing me both wheels for about 200 he reckons... I asked for hubs, rims(pref without brand names all over them) and spokes all in silver, and nice too, and that was his quote... does that sound reasonable to you? or do you reckon i should buy my own bits and pay one of you lot for a special massage and candle-lit bath affair?

chris crash
dogsballs not hard dude. how about not being a lazy fuck and order yourself.
go to SJS click buy rim and click buy hub and click buy spokes, click rim tape, click tubes, click tyres.
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/find.asp
or
http://www.cyclebasket.com/also, what's the go with all these peeps who want stuff done for them uber cheap and right now.
its not people wanting stuff for cheep that annoying its people that act all offended when offered a service at a fair price.
yep, I've been really surprised to see that people only charge 10 quid to actually build the thing: that's seriously underselling your skills.

wow! guys, sorry, yep. i was being lazy, did use search briefly, but was just leaving work so thought i'd see who'd bite the bait while i was away and though id get some new fresh tips if i started a new one... I love the fact that you reply even though you thoroughly disapprove...
Main thing about me not getting the parts myself is I was hoping to talk to someone with the knowledge about it first, thus the post. But got me some tips now so feeling like my bike questing saturday will be a success... Thanks! ;-)
mashton, I dont know wheather you remember, but while your senses were dulled with pain killers i stole your lights. I still have them and am feeling mighty guilty that you are riding again... sorry.
i better return them to you before you go and have some more bad luck...
this week.
