*I live East, the bike's in bethnal green. But I'll come to you, I'm happy to go all over the shop. Just need to get it up and running: I've been working on it since september, and it's well and truly become a joke. Nothing to take out, need to de-rust it a little though...
Whoop! thanks! PM me or something

howdy, anychance that anyone going to central drinks this week/next week happens to have a Miche BB tool, and the expertise to help me fit one? trying to knobble this business soon, and really want to learn how to do it, instead of just handing it in at a shop and collecting it when it's done...
I'll pay good gold-en beer.

Also, I'd want a 18/19/20t cog (71/67/65ish gear inches).
cool, ta Horatio. I guess I dont like it when my legs go around too fast. so would that be more like the 18?
@ eyebrows: cool, good idea, I think i'll try and get it done with mary and small brown bike, but if i fail, then i'll let you know...
@JD_: thanks! but no, i dont need brakes, cheers though keeping an eye out!
@Mary : thanks for the tip! I'm away on sunday though, but i'll pm you for more info, ta!

did anyone ever see that episode of Burkes 999 - probably 1995 or something - where a young boy was cycling and went down a curb, the wheel wasn't properly secured in the front forks and came off, he flew over the handlebars landing in the middle of the road on his front, the frame somersaulted through the air and landed on him....
the front forks pierced his scull at the base near his neck. he was lying there for hours with the bike balancing precariously inside his scull, dropouts nesting next to his cerebellum. Missed all important bits and he was fine, no brain damage, but can you imagine??/
sometimes that flits through my mind when i go up curbs...

wonder whether anyone here, hungover or not, could help me with my build? any tips even? not just parts: details in this post:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread8685.html#post244464 -
yo, so i'm still missing certain parts from my build(this is my frame). As i have no specialist tools i'm going to be taking it to Perlie Rides (www.perlierides.com) to get it built for me. He is able to supply me with the below parts, but he's not going to have enormous choice, and it will all be new stock, so i can imagine it's gonna be the straws that break the camels back.
the list runs thus:
a chain
a sprocket (dunno what size to choose, i'm running 49 - Miche Advanced in front)
a headset - want something silver
a bottom bracket.(english thread, the hole measures 35 across)
a brake lever
a seat post - 26.4 i think, the seat postit's slowly getting shorter, but very slowly, and i'm running out of cash...
anyone got anything going spare? tires for instance could be any old things knocking about, and i'll replace them when i've replenished my hordes of treasure..
any help would be greatly appreciated!
au revoir, van damage

hello,
I'll be turning up after work to rendez vous with eyebrows about a brake, if anybody has some spare lugged forks knocking about which they think would go with my frame (http://www.londonfgss.com/attachments/1163d1216636704-img_0183.jpg), maybe red ones? i'd be very interested to have a look... Have a friend with a spare set of Viscount forks but i havnt been able to get hold of him yet, and i have a date with the guy who's gonna build it for me tomorrow... look forward to it,
beth

Had a freak ceiling leak above the place where i had left my freshly powder coated frame.
Didn't realise until now that there are patches of light rust (like you get on your wok if you haven't oiled it properly) inside the down tube and bottom bracket hole. Was reading another post which recommended rust prevention techniques, but what about if there is rust there already. I can't reach the stuff deep inside so what should i do? Will it be a problem anyway? should i just WD40/oil the whole of the inside of the frame and leave it be?
any ideas?

Yep, finally. Got me some wheels, a chainset, handlebars, seat, err, but that's it.
so need to buy a headset, bottom bracket, seat post, handlebar stem to fit my Nitto bars which measure 8.5cm around...chain as well.
Any ideas? can all of this stuff be second hand? or is there second hand stuff in that list to avoid?
Any tips you can shovel my way will be greatfully read, and any bits you have to sell me or recommend would be good too!
thanks.

I decided i'd build my own out of an old dawes i've had for ages. That was about 9 months ago! Powder coated it, got a nice saddle for free, bought some nitto drop handle bars for cheap when i was in Japan, getting hold of some nice hubs and mavic open pro's this weekend (finally)... then getting someone to build up the wheels up for me soon i hope...
In trying to do it as cheap as possible, and happening to have wildly oscillating funds and time on my hands I could have had a baby by now. It also didn't help that I replaced my back wheel, cassette and chain on my geared tourer. As soon as i'd done that, a lot of the urgency drained away from the build project because cycling on the old tourer suddenly felt like flying...
but i wouldn't have it any other way, buying a complete bike would feel like a cop out.
the story continues,
good luck!
that one with the red flame tatoo on his arm who's a fine mechanic, what's his name? - something rock n roll - down Bishops gate this morning with a lady on a pink Mercian...
