Im just letting off steam, shit chatting. Not really looking for answers, but if there are solutions, then that is good.
I just need to do 'more' of everything. I can train round regents park after/before work, but nothing beats track training, or even more so, actual racing to get fit. In desperation I am upping my gear for my commute/RP rides to make the little time I currently have for training/riding as hard as possible.
Maybe its a good idea, maybe its not. I just dont find spinning around (even if you dont agree its 'actual' spining, it feels like it to me),is doing me much good.
In answer to your question, Rob, it feels like I have no power when it comes to trying to make a break or even sprint for the line. My legs feel weak like there is nothing there at all. I cant push. I admit though, that even if I can sprint away, I cant keep it going for more than a lap at the very most. Therefore I realise I am simply not fit yet.riding a bigger gear in your commute is unlikely to do anything for your sprint or ability to create or close gaps. Unless you ride race gear to work and sprint away from all stops at race intensity...
Keep the commute gear in a range that lets you average roughly 100rpm for the ride and add a proper sprint session a week, or if you have time, one sprint session with proper rest and one interval session.

David Le Grys and Lee Povey of www.fasttrackcoaching.biz are proud to announce details of our Starts and track Time Trial clinic on Saturday 12th June and Sunday 13th June at Newport Velodrome.
This two day clinic is for anyone competing in 500-750-1000 Sprint Time Trials, Pursuits or who just want to improve their gate start. With prior notification we could also accommodate Team Pursuit and Team Sprint squads.
The Clinic will cover starting technique, track and bike position, indoor track riding skills and pace judgement. There will be extensive verbal and video feedback throughout both days from two of the world's leading coaches. This clinic is limited to just 20 riders to ensure everyone one gets a high level of individual instruction and attention.
We are also offering individual bike fit sessions at over the weekend, where we will set your bike up in the best position for you to maximise your potential.
There will be opportunities over the weekend to try out your chosen event in race conditions with a start gate and with video feedback.The clinic starts at 12.00 on Saturday and has 8hrs track time split over the weekend, finishing approx 18.30 on Sunday.

hey guys, gearing for preston park is ideally between 84"-90" so thats 44x14/47x15 up to 47x14/50x15 any bigger and you will really struggle to react to the speed variation in the bunch, we are running training sessions Friday night as mentioned above start at 5.30 for beginers then the more advanced session starts at 6.30. Would be great to see you all there as I am coaching tonights session

The sprinters want traditional match sprints. This would consist of the following:
Qualifying round - Flying 200m - Top 32 QualifyThe top 32 riders are seeded - meaning the first placed rider will face the 32nd placed and so on.
Followed by 1-on-1 knock out round leaving use with 16 riders
Followed by another 1-on-1 knock out round leaving use with 8 riders
Then onto a best-of three-race format. Riders defeated get another chance to continue in the competition through the repachage races.
It take a lot of time. And so lot of organising. This is why many event organisers don't bother. It can, and should, however be done... Even I would give it a go.

Personally I would be happy with 6 x up to 6 up one lap sprints, first two through to a 2nd round, then 4 x 3 ups winner through to semi, 2 x 2 ups winers through to final second to minor final. shouldnt take too long if u want have a 200m tt for seeding great but not a big deal if you dont.

the 3 lap dash is not a sprint, the tactics involved and the sheer physiology required for them is quite different, they are nearer to a kilo but often have repeated bursts.
The peak power i hit in 3 lap dashes is usually roughly 400 watts less than in a proper sprint which coincedently is roughly the same as I hit in a scratch race finish, so reallly 3 laps dashes are just a short scratch race.

so no guaranteed sprint at each meeting? no sprint at the track league either? how exactly do sprinters get to race? how do new riders get to give it a go? does pe me off that track leagues and open track meets dont suport sprinting when we have so little oppertunities to race!! Surely sprinting should be a vital part of every track meet, baring in mind endurance riders can do road, circuit races and then have 3-4 races at a single track meet and time cant be found for one sprint event?!?

Yes really and its a view shared by Shane Sutton and the GB sprint coach......
A bit more work in the gym and less endurance work/more speed work he would drop more than 2 seconds and I think you will find Mulder, D'Almeida and Nimke already do commit to the kilo, just because Team GB dont now its not an Olympic event doesnt mean its been devalued to the rest of the world....

Actually while you're here dino is there any truth that the UCI is limiting it to 1 rider per event?
So, Hoy say, would have to choose between match sprint and kierin?
Not heard that, if its one rider per event Hoy can still do the Kierin and sprint and just be the sole rep from GB in each event, if its one event per rider that does change things but I certainly havnt heard that.

I still think you're wrong. You seem to be assuming the 'endurance' events will see Ed just sit in the bunch and then stomp everyone at the finish. Not a chance. The women's race might have come down to a bunch sprint but you will note to win the Points, Meyer took a lap. It's also a lot more racing when you look at all the events combined and Meyer has already proven himself a fine tactician so don't just assume 'sprinters are generally better tactically' will apply to him. He's already proven himself 'tactically'.
And if the Pursuit was still in the Olympics Bobridge would have won.. blah blah..
Have a bit more of a think about how the omnium works mate, you get awarded points baised on your finish in each race, a "sprint" type of rider doesnt need to win the points or scratch race, just finish in the top 5-6 Meyer can win the points race and scratch in the omnium lapping the filed 5 times, still doesnt get him more points per race in the omnium over all. And I said usually better tactitions of course they are always exceptions like Meyer, although he won the points race by being twice as strong not better tactics (usually taking a lap solo results in the rider blowing afterwoods for example).

- Individual pursuit (men: 4 km, women: 3 km) ENDURO
- Scratch race (men: 15 km, women: 10 km) ENDURO
- Kilometre time trial (men), 500-metre time trial (women) SPRINTER
- Elimination race (24 starters) ENDURO
You might have heard of something called drafting.....totally changes the dynamics of a race when a bunch is involved bar the pursuit the solo events are sprinters races where the true enduros cant hide, the elimination is a tactics race and will suit the tatactically more away riders (usually the sprinters) and the scratch u can hide in and win. So you are wrong the omnium is more suited to a sprint type athlete with the ability to train for endurance events so the typical kilo rider really. And as a little aside if the kilo was still in the Olympics ED Clancy would have won in London.......

Smoked implies a substantial margin of victory, which was not what your A-Team had over our development squad.
Meares and Mcculloch undoubtedly did great rides in the team sprint, and would probably have won it even if the prime GB lead out rider hadn't been out playing on her toy bike.
Dropping into the 32s bracket was, leaving jovial nationalism aside for a moment, one of the true highlights of the week, which is not a plaudit one could really apply to any of the pursuit titles. Mulder's Kilo in 1:00.341 was maybe an even greater achievement, showing that there is progress in the event despite the rank stupidity of the UCI/IOC. If I understand physics properly, the Ballerup track, whose long straights made for some much more exciting match sprinting than we've been used to at the more circular tracks, should not produce fast time trials.
Clearly the conditions, if not the track, favoured the sprint time trials, but even so Ed Clancy pulling a completely unnecessary PB and a time good enough for a top 10 finish in the Kilo competition at the end of the Omnium showed not only great athleticism but huge confidence and control. Going off in the last race, he would have known that whatever Leigh Howard did, a 1:03.5 would secure gold, but he still went all out to win it in style. (Pointy) Hats off to the plucky lad from Huddersfield. Finally, once again, Bauge going sub 10s in a match sprint; Hoy would have had his work cut out to stay with that kind of form even without the tactical errors in the early rounds.
Ed had no choice there is no way you can pace a kilo to hit a set time, you just have to go balls out and see what you end up with..

Your omnium winner isn't even sure he'll be racing it due to working on the team pursuit.. which we.. err.. smoked you in. The Omnium hasn't even been finalised and will likely be over 2 days, not 1.. recovery being a key factor here and which you'll agree Meyer managed rather well.
France and Oz beat your men's sprinter.
The Aus girls beat your women's team sprinters.
And in case you didn't notice, Meyer would have destroyed Clancy if he had done the Omnium instead of his chosen events.You are wrong he wouldnt, the requirements for the omnium are mainly a sprinter who can manage enduro events not the other way round, I agree Clancy was the stand out performance of the whole comp with Mulder just behind, the TS girls were good but they are still only just a couple of tenths quicker than Meares rides solo...that event has a way to go yet.
