Unless I haven't UTFS well enough, I can't find much other chat on here about tour operators.
I run a cycling club at the school I teach at. We have successfully taken groups of kids London to Paris and London to Edinburgh. I am considering organising a trip this summer to the Alps. Perhaps five days of riding and travel either side of that. For L-P and L-E and a lejog this summer (without kids) I have done all of the organising. However, for a few days in the mountains, I am considering getting a company to help out.
So, apart from the comments above, does anyone have anything much to add? Any companies worth checking out?
Any experience of either of:
http://www.sportingtours.co.uk/
or
http://www.marmot-tours.co.uk/
The other possibility is MTFU and do the organising myself again.
Any thoughts or advice welcome.
Ta.
Joe

I thought yesterday's piece on Obree was much more interesting:

On the topic, looking at the pic of him and his bike, how do you think he has mounted his shifters? For a geared knock about bike, I quite like the idea of flat / slightly swept bars but with STI shifters mounted for braking / shifting / offering a different hand position.

In fact, every time someone complains about the appearance of watches here I will post a nice pink My Little Pony** LCD** watch for their benefit.
So a fail, then, as that ^^ isn't LCD.
This is more like it, and the kind of thing you'd like anyway:

Strange, mine's definitely the gibbon's cut.
Wonderful shirt, but bit long. I expected it to be snug fit and went for XL.
EEI, if you don't mind me asking, what chest size are you usually? I was thinking that these looked like a nice number, but am wavering on sizing.
Also, gibbon cut = long in body or arms or both?

It doesn't get enough milage for me to justify it really and have been meaning to get round to selling it. Serviced by the Bike Whisperer, not many miles since purchase.
PM me an offer if you are interested / want to check it out.

Thursday is nearly the start of the weekend. I rode this loop anti clockwise with a mate today:
http://friendfit.com/routeview.php?rtnum=73996
It was a lovely day for a ride. Navigation was courtesy of a ripped out page of a road atlas. As such, there were some slight unintentional detours on the unmarked lanes that meant we rode about 70 miles. We rode Witham to Thaxted at a fair clip (for me) and arrived ravenous. A hasty lunch from the shop and onwards back to Witham.

Anybody know if any of those Coinstar machines are still in existence?
Their web site says that there are machines at New Cross Gate sainsburys and Asda on OKR but they weren't there when I visited.
I've got a very large number of coins that I'd like to change.
NXG Sainsburys does have one. It used to be by the front door, it has moved to the by the other exit now. Walk along the line of checkouts towards the learning centre and it is on the right.

Both of rapha's merino hats are a bit of a bargain at the moment - the skull cap is £15, and the (Paul Smith) knitted cap is £20. I love my skull cap, which I got last year as a gift. If you want a winter hat, now might be a good time to splurge. The skull cap doesn't even look like rapha. Which is a good thing.
I might have a big fat bonce, but I brought the merino beanie last year and found it didn't provide great coverage. Standard single layer polartec beanie was offered a written apology and returned to full employment.

You would feel a right nugget with that on the back. It'd ruin it for me. There is one further down the listings for £2200 with a kevlar strap that is quite good value. The only thing I'd worry about would be authenticity / getting shafted by someone if it was a private seller rather than a business. You & DMC are right though, they're def better value 2nd hand.

@Superprecise,
All lovely choices. Ones that I lust after myself. I was googling about a bit not so long ago, I like that this guy has the three different straps at his disposal. It seems to me to be a nice way of adding a little variety to a lovely watch

Positive, I assume? 'Loads' would suggest repeat business.
