ok what i say has probably been said but im gonna put in my experience/theory.....
first, what is your cycling experience? I have ridden all sorts of bikes all my life, before getting a fixedgear i rode mainly bmx so lots of spinning sprints then rest then sprint, so i got a fix to (1) ride to work on (2) get fitter!
now a bmx gearing is real easy about 60inches but your not seated, so going to a fix with about 64 inches was a real wake up for my fitness as its contsant! but i think it worked out well for me. I rode this for a while and found that i was spinning out a lot on the flat so i went a bit bigger and so on over the space of 6 months, however my route has stayed the same its a good mix of up and down hill with flat at either end of the 15mile trip so my legs have had a progressive workout all over. so despite feeling fooked after every ride to begin with the easy gearing let my legs work up strength rather than just plowing in with a normal but yet maybe hard ratio to begin with. I have always been super paranoid about my knees due to a family history with bad problems so maybe this has helped my approach. eat propperly too! this helps leaps and bounds! and dont be afraid to change things around on your bike, like saddle height/position, i lowred my saddle about 20mm the other day and couldnt believe what a difference it made! hope this helps someone... -

i have an idea......
im going to 'fix' my bmx then ill kick their arses! hahawell for me my fixgear is for speed and trasport, maybe a skid and a trackstand here and there..
I have a bmx which wont brake half as quick doing 'tricks and stunts'. to be honest tricks on a fix looks as graceful as a full susser riding around a town! haha. -

ive never run tugs, not even on my bmx which get all sorts of physical abuse towards the rear wheel. they are good at fine tuning your wheel placement and making sure its centered. I guess i just get my trusty 15mm and crank down on the nuts. lots easier/quicker without tugs for punctures!! but different frames/paintjobs behave differently with the whole nut to dropout interface so trythem if your getting slip or when/if they slip.....

Why are you interested in "fixie's"?
built my old bike as a singlespeed with a surly flipflop hub, and decided to flip it around to see what it was like and then didnt look back! now i have 3 fixedwheel bikes.
What trips do you do?
generally i ride from home to work and back which is about a 30 mile round trip, five days a week....not quite true at the moment with the shite weather as im being lazy and dry!
Where do you travel?
all over the world, given the funds are there. but thats with my bmx. not yet 'travelled' with my fixedwheel.
Do you meet other "fixie" peeps?
sometimes, a few friends have fixedwheel bikes. I also meet quite a few when they come into the bike shop i work at.
Have u injured yourself?
Yes, but not on my fixedwheel despite being hit by a few cars. My bmx beats the shit out of me.
And any other exciting pieces of info you have?
The flea when jumping accelerates 50 times faster than a space shuttle. Without its outer shell it would get smashed by the velocity of the jump.
Oh and pics if possible?

nope, i have to say when ive been hit off my bike the pink mist comes down and i just go livid, yes there have been people bigger than me, but thats what happens sometimes. im not just gonna get all wet handed just because i think that there is a big kid in the car, fnuck no he/she can hear what i have to say. and if they are truely a big cnut i can always sprint like a bastard off!
anyway, rums shit. whisky all the way.
any pics?
