I can't recall ever seeing one of those bikes being ridden before. I guess it does make sense that they would have smaller rather larger sizes, as you say.
Still, quite a story!
I was in France last year for the tour and a saw the mavic car on display with all the bikes, they all looked like they'd been used a lot which I found quite surprising.
Also some of the team cars would have one or two bikes on it that had toeclips on. Suppose this might of been incase someone ripped a cleat out as I take it they would all use the same pedals in a team?

I imagine a lot of riders will change their bike before the cobbled sections start.
They're not allowed to do roadside changes, they have to get a bike from the team car which would make it a bit slow.
They don't want Cancellara picking up his 'special' bike and freewheeling to victory then stashing it in the bushes just before the end!

What don't I ride?!
I have a Brompton, my cyclocross bike is a Salsa La Cruz, my road bike is a carbon Felt, my track bike is by a bike shop from NYC that sponsors me called Continuum, I have a 1970's Bianchi touring bike, my day to day commuter is a Surly Steamroller with a coaster brake and sit up and beg bars, and I've just been given a steel Kona Explosif MTB.
I ride everything, all the time.
I'm not any good at any of it.
One of my biggest regrets in life was selling my steel Explosif, is it a purple one?

As an inexperienced track rider and racer if I was making any stupid mistakes I would hope someone would tell me. Theres a lot going on on the track and its way easier to rectify what your doing wrong when you know about it!
Sorry to hear about all the crashes, hope everyones healing well.
Hopefully be back on the track next week, was wanting to go this week but rather annoyingly snapped my seat bolt.

Eh? You do know the rider is/was one of the best trials riders in the world, right?
When I looked at the first time I didn't think it was Martin Ashton either and I know who he is. It must be though as doing something like that would be pretty easy for him, reckon his hair is dyed or something.
I take it his own bike brand has been taken over by Raleigh now?

I was working on this putting the hand drawn design into a CAD model a while ago:
http://www.carryfreedom.com/bamboo.html
Although I sent him some of the CAD files and he never got back to me so I stopped doing it. Not sure where it is now but if you get in touch with him I'm sure he would sell you a copy for a few quid or give it away free. I think I've lost my copy but I'll have a look. This design could be made around the size of a massage table easily as its very versatile. Its reasonably easy to make and will be light as well. It would probably have to be looked after well though as any homemade ish design will be hard to make straight and get tracking bang on which will make more problems the longer its used.
If I was doing this for myself I would start with this and build a frame on top to hold the table

I lived in Groningen for a year, I love it there. Amazing city to ride in and great surrounding areas too, just missed hills when I was there!
