What about a hub gear with a bar end shifte? The Alfine 8sp is solid, reliable, and good value now. The gear range is pretty wide, and swapping the sprocket if you needed to gear down for a heavy tour would be straight forward. Can run it with a bar end shifter too.
Except I've just noticed the vertical drop outs. Doh

Extractor set
You tried this? These are all in one type.Yeah - was trying to drill a hole into the screw for the extractor to go into.
You should be able to drill into normal steel screws relatively easily, were your bits in good condition? Drilling too fast? Sorry if these are obvious questions.
Are the screws some special type like hardened/tempered steel? Not sure why they would be...
Bits were brand new. Screws normal steel. Probably drilling too fast - drill has only one speed. Hadn't thought of that. Cheers.

I used the 'new' hubjub just before Christmas. Package turned up super fast, but contained the wrong items. Asked for the correct stuff to be sent with a returns envelope. A phone call and 6 emails later, with various weirdly defensive responses and vague apologies in response, and it is still unresolved. Lame. And a million miles from the friendly hand written note you'd get with your loot from Will.

Any thoughts on removing seized screws holding up a box shelf... Steel zinc screws. Completely seized. Screw head ruined.
I tried drilling into the screw to get a screw extractor in. 3mm Cobalt bits made no impression, and eventually broke.
So I tried drilling the screw head off with a larger cobalt bit... Barely touched the screw head, just got so hot that the surrounding wood started to burn.
Any ideas? Cheers

rear blackburn flea has finally given up on charging from the usb and i never got on with the velcro starps that kept on breaking at the joins.
Knog blinders the next best alternative?
The fleas have a lifetime warranty so you can get them replaced.
I got my money back and got one of these, which is superb on constant, although the flash modes have too long between flashes for my liking. £24

I'm looking for a large steel mountain bike/frame, top tube of 58cm or thereabouts.
I fancy making a 26" wheel tourer, rough rambler kind of thing.
Anyone got such a beast?
I've got an Orange P7 from 2004 sitting semi dismantled in the cellar. 21" frame. TT 58.5cm, so effective tt would be a little more. Has all the eyes for racks. Geometry might not suit though in that it is designed for either 4 or 6" travel forks (can't remember which). No damage to the frame, and the paintwork is reasonably good /what you'd expect for a 10 year old mtb. I could be persuaded to sell it. How much do the frames go for nowadays?

http://www.julianstephens.com - in Brighton, but close to the station. Lovely stuff from a range of individual jewellers. Different styles. Prices not expensive up to to ferociously so. They have an ethical policy on diamonds, but don't know about metals.

I would not have asked the questions if I wasn't interested, and the information will enable me to decide whether I want to buy it, or not. Most sellers would put this (fairly fundamental) info' in the advert. You're selling it overseas and not via ebay so you have no selling costs, and the buyer has no protection. You're asking top top dollar for one of these frames, perhaps even over the top. So, it's hardly a big ask to want to know the frame number and measurements, and to see a picture of the whole frame, and some close ups now. Is it?!
ps - the seat post out picture - that's so as I can see that it comes out.

Dave, Can check all that for you tomorrow if you're genuinely interested...
When you say other measurements what do you want?
I'll check for eyelets i think it has them...
I thought the pictures i have up pretty much covers everything? Any specific place you were looking for pictures of?Eyelets, dropouts, frame number, close ups of the lugs/tube meeting points (they have sometimes been known to come unbonded and the paint at the joint may show signs)
This...
Seat tube CtC
Width of rear dropouts
Is the rear brake bridge and the fork drilled for recessed (allen key style) or nuttedAlso head tube length
And this...People want to see the shape / geometry of the frame. you need to step back a bit to get it all in.
As for the colour, it's original and unusual, leave it as it is.
Also a picture with the seat post out please.
Many thanks.

Project 853 x Sram Mk.II is well underway. Because I will be sharing wheels with Mk.I, the total build cost is currently around £200.
Only issues so far are that the front fork clearance is so tight the 25mm GP4seasons barely fit, and the fact that the shifters were sold that the right shifter was fucked and I haven't tested it with a cable yet...

Lovely looking forks them.

Out of interest, why the change of fork?
