Unless your iMac has an eSATA connection, any speed gain from SSD would likely be choked by USB/FW.
I'd gladly cast out an internal optical drive to get an SSD directly connected via SATA. This replaces your internal SuperDrive. Thanks for the info. I wondered if that might be the case. Hadn't considered an external optical drive though. Duh! That external superdrive you linked to is apparently not compatible with my iMac, not sure why that'd be though. I wonder if there's an external case I could mount the iMac's optical drive in and connect via usb?

Main problem with the Genesis is track-ends + disc brakes (and potentially mudguards).
You need to loosen off the rear brake caliper in order to slider the wheel forward and remove the belt/chain.
Rear wheel changes would already be fiddly though, as you also need to disconnect a cable from the Alfine too.
Use sks mudguards and use the mounts intended for the front wheel at the back. The guard can then be popped out giving room for the wheel to move backwards and out of the drop outs. I've never had to touch the brake caliper to remove the rear wheel. I've also found it unnecessary to disconnect the gear cable to change an inner tube... Bike upside down, then remover the wheel and lay it flat across the underside of the chain stays with the gear cable side of the hub facing the floor.
The Genesis 853 frames are great... Go for it!

Further along, the park at Holkham Hall is closed to cars until April, so the deer are pretty chilled. Good place if you are in the area and have real little ones who need quiet roads.

Thanks for the tip. Saw it on TV the other day and wondered if it might be ideal for the little'uns. Lovely bike btw.

You buy units which equate to an amount you can d/l per month. A unit (costs a ten er) and will be used much faster with peak time 9am-6pm) use than off peak. Ie 1gb at peak time is 0.8units, where as 50gb off peak is 1 unit. Speak to your current ISP and ask what your normal monthly usage is (and if possible the peak/ off peak break down) then you can get an idea of what you need. You're only tied in for a month at a time though so no long contract probs.
The availability checker is bottom left corner of their home page. But call them...They're nice!

I think Virgin use their own network. We've just ditched them and signed up with Andrews and Arnold. Initial impressions really really good. Options for ADSL, fttc, fttp, depending on where you live. Pricing looked complicated initially, but it's just unfamiliar and is actually straightforward. The service is top notch. I spoke to them before we signed up, and they did not try to sell me anything, but talked through the options, answered questions and left me to decide. I've needed to speak to them once since and they were easy to get through to, and I spoke to someone who knew what they talking about, and despite the issue being a BT issue they came up with a solution and got it sorted for me.
Not quite. The guy's attitude became so irksome that I couldn't really be bothered to engage with his bullshit any further. Life's too short etc etc
