@lardy_biker so have you had it yet? What was it like if you have?
-
-
Maybe could/should indicate it's film in the title - I got all excited but I don't shoot film (haven't the time) anymore. Doing themes sounds great though :)
also, I suspect your day mentions in criterion 2 need adjusting (which Sunday in the month?).
Good luck all - I look forward to seeing the pics.
-
Well, I guess it's @WillMelling who cares ;-)
-
Well spotted Will! #in_my_head I had highlighted it to you all already... Enjoy, everyone :)
-
also, there is a @CogSucker, which is why I got confused!!
-
-
-
Er... Hadn't realised that (and not sure if I understand why that's a problem - but I haven't had any coffee yet)... I was just following the style of the first post. Do I need to go through and remove all the @ signs now then? Cos I'm afraid that's going to have to wait a little bit until I have some time (I did the list last night before I went to bed).
-
Ok, here you go. As I didn't know what had been before, I've gone through to update the list... although unfortunately I didn't have time to appreciate all the fantastic photography along the way.

In fact, I may have got winners wrong all over the place, especially at the beginning. The week numbering is also probably wrong, but hey... @mi7rennie, maybe the first post could be updated with this info?
-
-
Thank you everyone - I really didn't expect to win, I thought that I was actually going for the record number of weeks in a row of getting (0) votes! Well, I know it's only been two weeks prevously, but I'm still amazed, so thank you all again... There really were some amazing photos this week. @WillMelling what even was your photo?
Anyway, I'm currently in the process of trawling through the thread and trying to figure out what's been posted before. I've got a couple of ideas but will probably post in the morning, hope that's ok.
Cheers!

I've just received an email about a new consultation on safety standards for heavy goods vehicles in London:
Have your say on the introduction of safety permits for Heavy Goods Vehicles as part of the Direct Vision Standard to reduce road danger.
For full details and to share your views, please visit tfl.gov.uk/direct-vision-standard:
http://info.tfl.gov.uk/re?l=D0I9y344xI2un98pwI0
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) forms part of the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and TfL’s Vision Zero approach to reducing road danger. The DVS categorises Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) on the level of the driver’s
direct vision from the cab.The proposed permit scheme is part of the DVS proposals and would require HGVs over 12 tonnes to hold a Safety Permit to operate in London from 2020.
We would like your views on the Safety Permit Scheme, which could include safety systems such as sensors, visual warnings and comprehensive driver training.
This consultation will run until 24 January 2018.
The first page of explanatory text says:
We have undertaken research that shows that in 2015, Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) were involved in disproportionately high numbers of fatal collisions with cyclists (78 per cent) and pedestrians (20 per cent) on London’s streets, despite only making up four per cent of the overall miles driven in the Capital.
So while I don't think the fact that the disproportionate involvement of HGVs is radically new (e.g. see the article I and others published a few years ago on Deaths of cyclists in London: trends from 1992 to 2006 which makes the same point), it is at least good to see that there is finally some kind of action by a governmental body.
Taking a brief look at the survey (pages 1 and 2) it seems it is majority questions/statements that require a response from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree" (and I haven't yet thought about what good responses may be) but there are also a number of questions that provide the opportunity for free text answers.
I hope that it will be possible for this community to provide a good level of input on behalf of cyclists in London.
Cheers,
d0cA

rep @Hefty - those were the days, eh?

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning either scenario - I think it's wrong to snatch phones or bikes or anything and then ride off, and I particularly think it's wrong to throw acid at someone else or injure them in anyway.
What I am saying is that prevention is better cure. That is, I think in the bigger picture, it would be better to focus energies on trying to improve the lot of everyone so that some people are not tempted into doing these acts in the first place. And the way to do that, I think, is not by increasing punishment ("afterwards") but by trying to find opportunities ("beforehand").

Yes, I saw that Guardian article too. Maybe it's time to start privatising the police force too (alongside the health service, that is)??
But seriously...
I am, however, not hopeful that the more important and wider-ranging improvements will happen anytime soon.
They certainly won't if we don't at the very least talk about a better alternative. Better still we get out and do something (I'm a fine one to talk, I know - I don't even live in the UK anymore!): protest, agitate, raise awareness of a better / different way... the world (to me) is a much more worrying place than it was 10 or even 20 years ago - but 30 years ago and I thought it was all shit too (middle of thatcher's eighties) and it did definitely get better after that. So there is always some hope.
