Nag frame and group is wicked.
But that stem does not work on that frame one bit.
And the thompson seatpost is out of place.
Confused HHSBerThis!!
Needs .. Precisa Fork, Deda Newton Stem or similar slimline stem, Newton Shallow Bars to go with the stem or similar "italian" drop bars and a Campagnolo Carbon Post .. in my opinion
and I'm sure the post should be 27.2 not 27mm ?!

Better shaped saddle?
I have the opposite feeling. A well cushion saddle feels like a luxury for 10km. Before it starts inducing the bum-numb.
Same here .. got to say I'm also questioning whether the saddle is the correct one for you? or if there's something else not quite right with your position / fit now? Remembering you said yourself you'd become more flexible.

New 3T stems early 2013 .. not sure if it qualifies as beautiful but it looks nicer (to me)

The lever placement on that is perfect for a traditional shallow/italian classic round bend bar .. I don't see why everyone is making comments on contact points about what is a ridden rather then a concourse show bike .. one cyclist’s ergonomic heaven is another’s hell.
Perhaps the OP will comment but to me that bike looks nicely set up.

You're best off if your going to use indexed shifters to match the cassette to the shifter eg both 9 speed .. It's possible to match the different combination but you have by setting the shifter up in the middle of the cassette so the accumulation of the error is minimised at the two ends of the cassette, even then though the shift performance will be worse as you reach the extremes. It's a bodge to keep you riding ..
For the rear derailleur you'll also need to match manufacturer Eg Shimano in you case as the cable clamp is in a different position to Campagnolo which dictates how far the mech moves for a certain cable pull from the shifter. Again there are work a rounds!

Considering going back to silver campag on the alan.. or go in the other direction and get carbon threadless forks..
You've got a modern group set on there, changing back to old Campagnolo you had on the Alan would be step back if you're intending to use the bike regularly. I'd get a Columbus Minimal .. If it's a Sunday best then the Campagnolo would be more fitting ..

So, for example, price wise I could be better off buying Ultegra or 105 hubs and greasing them up rather than blowing the budget on a pair of Kings?
.. if you're looking for speed for a one off TT event then you'd be better off removing the seals, flushing the grease out of the hub bearings and adding a small amount of oil to keep the balls lubricated then the hubs will have a lot less drag. Of course you'll prematurely wear the hub ball bearings or bearing races.
.. anyway, generally unless you've got money to burn, in my opinion you're better off buying the Shimano or Campagnolo hubs then the KIngs. Sure King products are well made, last forever and are rebuildable, but these are features that are common to Shimano and Campagnolo so are King really worth the extra money to you? And they all roll just as nicely as each other .. although I'd suggest in my experience Campagnolo roll slightly nicer

I'm guessing at the mechanism because I've never had a Look (pun intended) but my thoughts is the screw may be a cam and the clamps are followers .. simple interweb analysis?! Have you tried pushing the stuck one back? and then turning the screw to see if it moves back out into the clamp position again .. Just a thought

I'm intrigued; elabourate...

Test where the Zipp 101 outperformed across yaw the 50mm deep Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR wheels due to its better shape.
Unlike Tester I'd guess indoors (without evidence) that the 80mm will be more aero due to its pure depth .. outdoors I agree. My honest opinion though, I think you've stepped backwards getting shot of the HEDs, the front was good enough for Tony Martin to take to victory on a tour stage ..
