Peter Gostelow's journal on CGOAB is pretty amazing if you've not read it - Japan back to the UK via lots and lots of places. Good photos + he's a better writer than a lot of people on there.

Just wanted to say thank you to coach/van organisers - a pleasure after the official coach last year.
Great ride, glad to have done it fixed, though not necessarily an experience I'd repeat... 120 miles on an almost brand new Brooks was also not a great idea, though not unbearable.
Did anyone else see a man jogging barefoot at around 3am in the middle of nowhere in Suffolk? May have been a hallucination, but I'm pretty sure I did.

As I assume there's a possibility of more people dropping out close to the time, is there any chance of getting added to the waiting list?
I realise I'm more of a lurker in the classified section than a regular user of the site... but I will be riding it fixed at least.
Having second thoughts about riding to Ipswich and really can't face the official coaches again. Also - Just managed to load that GPX file onto an Android phone via Linda File Manager and MyTracks - works great.
Jenny J has a coach space if she needs it.
Jacqui + 1 has the others... which takes us back to full capacity,

A lot of nice stuff seems to turn up on CTC. -
Just seeing if anyone has a road touring frame they'd like to get rid of - I'm looking for something reasonably lightweight, fairly classic, steel, around 54-56cm. Nothing too old - want 700c wheels and plan to set it up with modern gearing.
Budget fairly flexible depending on what's about.
Would also consider a whole bike maybe.
Cheers -
Just in case anyone finds it useful - here's what worked for me.
Totally stuck Miche BB - even Brixton cycles couldn't loosen it with a bench vice. No movement whatsoever.
So, I sprayed tons of Plusgas into the bottom of the frame (loads - you could hear it sloshing around inside). Left it overnight, tried to loosen non-drive side (with tool bolted onto axle). Result was I stripped all the teeth off the BB cup on that side.
I got annoyed and ignored it for a week - carried on riding the bike (including a 60 mile ride), still with loads of Plusgas in the bottom of the frame.
This weekend tried in a bench vice again - drive side (which still had teeth) came straight out with little trouble.
We then drilled two hole in the non-drive side cup, attached a lock-ring tool with a bit of pipe over the handle. This came straight out as well.
So in conclusion - Plusgas + time + lockring tool & drill are all good methods.

It's this one: http://freetownsports.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=fts0464
ok - think I'll leave it, thanks.

Is this the saddle?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=46963
If so, I'll take it - let me know postage costs (to london).actually maybe it's not - jsut looked at your pictures - do you have a link to the exact model?

Did you get this out? I'm having exact same problem with an English threaded Miche BB. Just took it down to Brixton cycles and wouldn't even loosen in a vice.
It's in a steel frame and according to the internet my next step should maybe be one of the following:
Pour coca cola into frame overnight.
Use plusgas (assuming Brixton Halfords have it).
Pour ammonia into it (if I can find some - would household ammonia do?).
Drill holes into the BB shell (any more advice on doing this)?
Hacksaw blade - presumably if I can get it into the gap between the spindle and shell.
As usual there's too much information available on the web and a lot of it's contradictory - e.g. some things say plusgas won't help with steel/aluminium. Or that coke will dissolve the steel while leaving the aluminium (this sounds unikely).
I've not wrecked any tools yet (can bolt mine onto the spindle solidly), there's just no movement whatsoever.

Pair of 27" wheels, nothing special - Weinmann rims, 'Normandy Deluxe competition' hubs, with Michelin 'club tourist' tyres. Rear comes with 5 speed casette.
Both pretty much un-used as far as I can see, however not very clean - were on a barely used 2nd hand bike which I've switched over to 700c.
£10 (or quite possibly less)
Pick up from central Brixton, possibly from Soho.

Just wanted to say thank you for your New Forest route - I finally did it at the weekend*.
- Except that due to some last minute bike maintenance issues (due to having left my touring bike in pieces over the winter and only starting to re-assemble it at 10 the night before) I had to abandon my 6am start and instead caught a train to Godalming around about 11 and did it from there instead.
And I also deviated a bit from the route around Winchester and did about 10 rather grim miles on dual carriageways, only some of it in the right direction.
And then I had to turn off to my destination South through the New Forest not long after that.
But... that aside, I stuck to your route for a good 50 miles or so and it was lovely, so thank you again.
Adrian
This is a nice route - pleasant out of london and then all quiet roads:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2664408 takes you as far as Winchester
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2599466 through New Forest to the Dorset hills.
I can send you my route notes in MS Word if you're interested.

ad - would be interested in a full bike - all the bits you need except the band on for index shifters

Haven't really got room for any more bikes... however it's very tempting - is that frame definitely 56cmx56cm? It looks much smaller to me, though maybe I'm being dim. She's about 5'3 so if it's a 56 it's definitely too big. Anyway, let me have a think about it because it'd certainly be pretty easy to transfer the parts over.
(and no need to worry about bar tape and saddles and stuff - I can sort all that out. I'm only clueless when it comes to road bike gearing... have built up quite a few other bikes). -
Sorry to butt in but do you have a use planned for the 27" wheels you're taking off? I could use some if they'd be going cheap, that is all. Let me know if so, but no worries if not
I was probably going to freecycle them here... it may be a while before this happens as I'm being incredibly slow about sorting this bike out, but if you still need them by then, you can probably have them.

If you don't mind my saying so, 531c is a very poor choice for a touring bike, unless your girlfriend is very light and doesn't carry much luggage.
I have a few bits that would sort this bike, though. Exage, Deore or LX, depending on how much you want to pay.
Don't worry - she is light and won't be carrying much weight - only intending light, relaxed touring with this - pottering around France for a week or so, weekends away, nothing too tough. I'd be carrying most of the weight - I built up my touring bike for the Himalayas so it's very tough (but more mtb style which is why I'm confused over gearing on this bike).
PM me with what parts you've got, might be interested.

The novice group last week was pretty frustrating - the induction over-ran so much that that it ended up being a really short session - it ended just as I was getting warmed up. I suppose it's unavoidable when there are so many people doing the induction with the good weather, but it's not great for people like me who are a bit slow for the Saturday morning session, but have a bit more experience than the just-inducted people.
No idea what the solution is - I'm working on my fitness and would like to move to the morning session by later in the summer, but I definitely don't want to be slowing anyone down.
I don't think anybody's to blame - it's never going to be easy to cater to such a wide range of skills/fitness and lots of people doing the induction can't be a bad thing, but it would be nice if the novice session could be a bit more clearly defined as separate from the induction - both times I've done it this year there's been a bit of confusion over when we can get onto the track. Anyway, fingers crossed it'll be better today.
What's the availability of the £2 hire Fujis like in the Saturday morning intermediate session?
I'm (nervously) contemplating making the move up from the novice session, but I've got pretty used to being able to ride a Fuji there and I'm not very keen to go back to the free bikes. Wasn't sure if busier session means less Fujis, or better riders means more people have their own bike.
Cheers
