Does anyone know if Virgin Media resells their fibre offering? We've been with them a while and they're bumping the prices which no one likes but OpenReach and other associated operators don't seem to work on our street. It would be great if there was another operator to keep Virgin Media's pricing honest...

I used London to Penzance service a month or so ago. Pre booked and no problems. Probably aided by the fact that I got on where the train originated in both cases. On the train down there were plenty of people with large luggage that were eyeing up bike slots for their luggage
Friend managed to get her bike on without prebooking but think she was helped by delayed service which meant that staff weren't checking bikes for reservations

I find it interesting to see people bring up articles/research/memes from years ago in threads on here and I am left wondering do people on here collect links for future use or simply lean on Google (or other search engines) to bring up content they've stumbled across in the past?
I've been using Pinboard since about 2010 and find it a great way for cataloguing content with about 20,000 pieces of content added with tags for subject, author, publication, year...but then I do have a library qualification which probably leaves me naturally inclined to engage in such activities. I'd probably describe it as an inefficient use of my time but I guess I collect content like other people collect stamps.

I did a cycle tour around southern half of Sardinia around March time in 2009. Had a good time with some honest climbing, coast road was not flat and going over to the other side of the island involved some hills. That being said, there was the lovely sound of sheep bells ringing from the flocks around and even picked myself up one from the local agricultural store. Got the impression that it could get v windy up on the tops going on the trees if you were up there at the wrong time (I was pretty lucky with the weather)
Tourism sector was practically deserted at that time of the year - I can remember rocking up to one tourist town hoping to find a campsite and restaurant open bit everything was shut prompting an expected ride onto the next town after an already long day in the saddle (can imagine it's a very different place in high summer)
I wild camped most of the time which l had no problems with but probably helped it was in the off season.
Flew in and out of Cagliari picking up a bike box from a cycle store on the way out (I'd emailed them before leaving London but don't think that made a whole lot of difference)
Happy to answer any questions you have but it was over a decade ago now so memories are far from clear and situations may have changed

In one case a kissing gate had been constricted to prevent person with a bike getting through (walker wouldn't have had any problems) and the fence above extended so you couldn't comfortably climb over.
In another case a tractor was parked in a way that blocked an access way as it narrowed, blocking access for pedestrians as well as cyclists. I let Cycling UK know and they recommended getting in touch with Cornwall Council to add some pressure for action

Did the WKW over a leisurely four days. Was great although gooes without saying that Cornwall is not flat.
Wild camped all but one night with no problems. Main issue was the blocking of right of ways a couple of time. First time saw us going up and over on the coastal path around Kennack Sands which meant some carrying up steps and then bush bashing through some gorse/brambles. The other time meant some travelling through a rather underused bridle way with the attendant nettle stings.

Would definitely recommend, definitely more a gravel/bikepacking route rather than tourer with panniers

Am keen to hire a bike in France but am visiting a part that's not well serviced by hiring operators. Approaches I'm considering are as follows:
Contacting local cycle clubs asking them to put a message out to members
Looking to see if there's any Airbnbs for things in France (any suggestions?) which might enable hiring of bikesAny other thoughts?

I bought these but then I'm possibly a bit more paranoid than most about losing bike mid holiday on tour and there are definitely want the opportunity to stop in at shops/attractions.

Been tempted by locks like Hiplocks Z locks in the past, but was rather put off them when I saved some touring cyclists with my Multitool who'd accidentally broken the key at the start of their tour

I've currently got an Alpkit Bruler which with the wind shield I've currently got does an alright job of heating up water for meals. I used it the other weekend in long grass but fortunately the spring weather meant that there was no real risk of fire spreading...might not be so lucky in summer.
Figure a small mat like this might do the trick and shouldn't break the bank
