TNRC 20/07/10 Essex http://www.bikemap.net/route/279148#...zoom=14&type=1
a list and then trains to be divided. please have suitable lights and be in a position to look after yourself if you get lost. Please only put your name down if you believe wholeheartedly in the TNRC code of ethical riding. i.e. "yeah i like to shoot off and put the hammer down at times but i like to wait at strategic points to gather the bunch so we ride together and I've even been known to make sure those less fast have got a wheel to suck on from time to time" - let's make this a ride to be proud of & tell our kids about. (include this in your copy and pasting)
- Clintsmoker

- marcom
4.tika - BMMF (grupposaviour, please)

Like to have all participants' names on the list, irrespective of outward bound travel method. I have to give all the statistics in a Powerpoint presentation to jonny and clintsmoker at the end of the year.

I have an Ortlieb Ultimate 5 Plus...would be good but the use of cross top bars and my need to turn my bars when travelling with my bike in a bag/box has made it rather redundant. If you're actively looking for one, I'm happy to part with mine for a few pounds
Ortlieb Bar-Bags
Has anyone used these? I have been eyeing both the Ultimate 5 Plus and the Ultimate 5 Compact.
The former seems massive while the latter too small. I'm trying to keep weight down to a minimum. Any insight at all would be awesome.
Cheers

How small do you need it to fold down and how precious is your bicycle you want to travel? Anything that properly folds down is going to provide you with a lot less protection. An alternative approach is simply to pick up a bike box from a bike store and leave it at the airport and do the same for your return journey. Saves the messiness of carrying bike bag around but adds instead the need to find a box in Japan (would suggest sending messages through to bike stores before hand)

I would argue cooking ecuipment is unneeded and will save you space/weight - although might be easier for me than others because i dont drink hot drinks. Lunch is typically bread, cheese, tomatoes, salami with dinner being stop off at a local (and cheap) restaurant
Decathlon do a cheap Thermarest clone which is worth checking out if you want a travelling mattress.
One thing that ive loved on my tour is a small elasticised cargo net that i picked up from Condor. Makes packing the rear rack a whole lot easier as loose items can simply be added under the net (much better than random bungy cords).

Finished ride to Zurich yesterday...amazing time and the regions between Munich and Zurich are really well set up for bike touring. Amazing roads and frequent cycle lanes, regular places to stop for food, cake and beer and while free/wild camping isnt officially allowed, I had no problems with it.
There are some climbs which on a fully laden bike under a hot sun werent always easy but the scenery was stunning. Lovely contrast between the Bavarian lowlands, the Alps, Bodensee (area around the shore of Lake Constance) and the Swiss lakes.

Ive got a Wild Country Duolite and its done me well although likley to be a bit more cosy if youre sharing it with someone other than a 'dearly beloved'

was a lovely time and definitely the most honest in terms of pace of the three I've been on this year...our navigator in chief, Corney did a no show so it took us a while to get going but was lovely when we finally made it out onto the country lanes. Lovely company from all involved and props to Dicki for riding back and Arducius for combining it with the Dorset Dash.

If the weather is good, it's worth riding out to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art http://www.louisiana.dk/uk/Menu/Exhibitions

**Tuesday 22nd June Surrey Hills **http://www.bikemap.net/route/282540#...zoom=11&type=2
train times: 19:09 and 19:33 London Waterloo usually from platforms 2/3
This is hilly and hard. Approx 32 miles. If you have never ridden this route before or have never ridden TNRC before then don't hesitate to ask us for the low down and info about being prepared. Last few TNRC rides have worked well. This should be a good one as the hills are always a pleasure to ride and it is near enough the longest day. let's get a list going. just write down if you will be train or ride out. after that we'll divide the trains into two and more info will be added about trains home and lights etc.
- Clintsmoker
- jaygee [train]
- tika (i hope to make it this time)
- middleofnowhere (train)
- fussballclub (train)
- Texas (train)
- shoots
- BMMF (train)
- damo (train)
- furious tiles (train)
- Gustav (train)
