I definitely feel BMMF has a fair point with this...when TNRC works well is when we all get to stretch our legs and there ain't too much hanging around. Is worth stating on the ride posting about the pace being honest or something of the sort
This raises the issue (again) of 'minimum rider ability'. There were no outliers tonight, so the pace was able to go up to 'normal' levels, with a naturally forming A & B group on various sections of the ride.
If we'd done this on some of the more recent rides, there would've been individuals dumped unceremoniously in the middle of nowhere (^no relation).
So what's the feeling amongst people who were out there tonight? What would you do?
publicise some kind of nominal average speed, and hope potential TNRCers are honest about their ability?
say anyone's welcome but explain that if you can't keep up with the back of the B group, you'll be dropped/told where to find the nearest train station etc?
tell people that if they bring along a newbie who turns out to be off the pace, they'll have sole responsibility for shepherding them home - a sort of 'ride buddy'?
wait until everyone's exasperated by getting held up, find a particularly quiet lane, and then fucking bludgeon them to death with a mini-pump and leave the corpse for the badgers and foxes to pick clean?
I know which option I favour.

There's a world of cycling resources outside of LFGSS as I've recently discovered in the process of researching a cycle touring trip I have planned for this summer. Figure this might be the right time to start a thread with websites worth checking for touring related information
CTC forum - there's likely to be someone on this forum who has been where you're going (or knows someone who does). Proved immensely useful in my case. The general CTC website is also good for general advice on cycle touring
Warm Showers - a site where people with an interest in cycle touring can network and potentially offer advice and facilities about their local area. I haven't used it yet but looks like an interesting resource
Travelling Two Site was down when I looked this evening but hopefully it'll be back up soon. It's a well developed resource for cycle touring and includes advice on travelling through lots of backwards corners of the world. -

I did the DD on a mountain bike that was too small for me with not too much in the way of miles...the last few miles took everything I had but do think there's a lot to be said for the power of the peloton for keeping you going through the dark hours in your mind. On arrival at Dunwich the first thought was never again, by the time i was on the bus home, I began to waver on this and have done it twice since and loved it each time...

We're keen to gauge interest in the the earlier suggestion of a 'Clash of the Codes' style event with teams from different corners doing competing. The contest would require a team of three to compete over a series of different events with the team being the one that had been the one that had performed the best over a number of events (we figure there'll be a bit of competition for DFL)
We're looking at running this in a weekend over July and we'd require the team members to give the better part of their weekend for this...there'll be plenty of opportunity for tomfoolery, it's just that it will revolve around bikes.
We've got a proposed list of events which are obviously subject to change
Polo
Alley Cat
Track Racing/Richmond Park TT
Horse
Roller Racing
Pisumo
Drag Sprints
Easts TTEvents would happen on Friday night, Saturday day, Saturday evening and Sunday day
Proposed teams:
North Drinks
South Drinks
East Drinks
West Drinks
Polo
Tricks
Couriers
Trackies
Roadies
People who don't belong/Nodders/CommutersThe selection of the team would be totally up to the groups themselves We are keen to have one team member be female although this may get dropped if there's not enough numbers.
So, if you are interested and are keen to take part - discuss it with your crew and get back to us with who you'd like in your team (it might pay to have some substitutes in case dates don't work).
Closer to the time we'll also be looking for some helping hands so let us know if you wouldn't mind helping out.
Closer to the time, we'll be looking for some help with running events
