This was my summer fixed wheel track bike. Built from the most beautiful vintage FW Evans track frame, it’s one of a kind and gets noticed everywhere. I had it powder coated black for durability and built it up with some really great components:
Surly 1” forks (utterly bombproof for the street) left uncut so you can trim to length and bung some spacers Mavic 32h Open Pro rims
Goldtech hubs front and rear
Stainless black Sapim spokes
18T track sprocket
Track chain
FSA single ring track crankset (48T)
Ritchey Stem
BBB Headset
Profile bars 42cm
Diatech Gold Finger brake lever
Campagnolo Mirage front brake (no rear, obviously)The frame measures 56cm centre-centre on the seat tube.
I’ve put an absolute fortune into this bike and although it’s not 100% perfect, it’s in really beautiful mechanical condition. A few of the fasteners have rusted a little as the bike has been in dry, inside storage in my garage for a couple of years (see photos). You could totally ride it as is, but I’d be inclined to replace the tyres and chain before hitting the streets with it. It’s absolutely light as a feather, handles whip-fast and purrs along like a baby.
This really was my absolute favourite fixed-gear ride of all time and it breaks my heart to see it go, but my knees just can’t take fixed any more so it’s time to find a few of my bikes a new home.
Pedals not included. Collection from UB6 - I’ll only consider posting it to you if it’s fully insured at your expense and you pay the full asking price.
Probably best to get in touch for a chat - 07960 875660.

Wow, what an absolutely top day out that was! Without wanting to repeat what everyone else has said too much; big, big thanks and massive props to the organizers of this awesome bike ride. This surely has to be up there as one of London's premier annual bike events now, doesn't it?
I made a little time lapse film from atop my penny farthing handlebars which you may want to see. It's on my blog at www.velopoly.com where I've written a bit more about all the fun I had yesterday.

Sad story of a garage being broken into in Ealing and 8 bikes stolen, 4 of which were fixed/track bikes.
http://bicycleslut.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/break-in-at-the-seekrit-bunker/#more-949
That's me. Our garage. Our bikes.
Including two fixies (three if you count the S3X) and some unique, irreplaceable machines.
Please keep an eye out for 'em, folks.

My mate TJ got hit by a taxi this morning and wants to know if anyone witnessed it and would be prepared to give a statement. In his words over on YACF:
It all took place between the Oval Junction A3 Clapham Rd crossing A202 Camberwell New Road, and the turning of Kennington Park Place northbound about 0815 onwards this morning
A number of cyclists were witnesses to one or other part of the events, but, as I was dealing with an unstable cabbie at the time, I was unable to take details.
If you saw any of the following, I (and the Police) would be keen to hear from you:
Taxi sideswiping me on the junction (I was not knocked off, but was injured)
Taxi driver getting abusive after being stopped
Taxi driver hitting me and grabbing my bike, throwing it to the gutter while I was on the phone to the emergency services
Taxi driver yelling at me to disrupt the emergency call
Taxi driver attempting to drive away from the collision, apparently happy to run me over in the attempt.
Taxi driver's second assault of me.
When I left the scene, the Police were still considering whether to arrest the driver. I have not been able to be in touch for an update.
Please PM me your contact details if you can help.
I'm not going to say more online just now (though I will be posting this request elsewhere) because I am determined these crimes will be prosecuted.
You can contact him at YACF or PM me here. He'd have posted himself, but there's a waiting period between joining and posting here (there's not over at YACF if you need to PM him there).
Sorry if this should be in Rider Down, please move if needs be.

Yesterday's grimp-fest. Not awfully fixed friendly, I'll grant you - but an excellent ride, nonetheless.

What a thoroughly unpleasant woman she is. I hope she reads this and the many other threads all over the intertubes dedicated to her today.

Chapeau!
Anyone know who the chap on the Brompton was? I had a brief chat with him en-route - very nice fella, who rode fixed one year wearing a kilt (he described said kilt as afterwards smelling like a dead fox).
That's The legendary Andy Gates and yes, he's mainly on YACF. He did it onna Brommie last year, too. Straight out of the box, it was. What a shakedown ride! The rest of the time, he rides a Mercian fix, down in Devon.

It's Wednesday and my poor arse hasn't recovered from what I did to it at the weekend. I have learned that sitting bolt upright for fifteen hours, whilst pedaling 30Kgs of recalcitrant steel up and down hills isn't particularly good for you.
But what a ride it was! I think I must have been passed by pretty much every Dunrunner, which was brilliant because everyone was giving me so much encouragement. Not only that, but I had a load of friends who stuck with me, looking after me in the badlands of Essex and then keeping me awake and motivated in the wee small hours. By the time the sun came up, I still had half the ride to go and despite having had a lot of experience with long-distance riding, I'd not quite imagined how tough the DD was going to be on my penny.
I had to have a snooze at about 8am in Needham Market because I was a bit shot away. Twenty minutes power nap, followed by a strong cup of Joe sorted me out and I was good for the last stretch. I strongly recommend taking a little camping stove and the makings of your own coffee and hot food, by the way. Even if it's only instant coffee and dehydrated camp grub, everything you need to conjure up a meal can be packed into a little saddle bag and it's such a boost to the morale to know that you're not dependent on the official feed stop.
We did a little better than this as we were carrying fresh coffee, pasta and a load of really nice food. My friends Andy, Phil, Duncan and David were absolute stars for sticking with me throughout the ride. Andy and David deserve special mention for their daft bikes - a three speed Brompton and a similarly geared 1950's Triumph gents' roadster!
Arriving at Dunwich was really special for me. We got in at almost exactly noon, to find my partner Liz was waiting with a stove and sausage sandwiches, which we had after a fabulous swim. If you've not experienced the sheer bliss of jumping into the cool sea after a Dun run and feeling your muscles relax and start to heal, you really must try it next year.
Anyway; Phil was wearing a head-cam as we rolled into Dunwich. Here's the footage:

Oh arsicles. My mate Andy's penny is unwell. We spent most of the afternoon fettling it to within an inch of its life, but it still feels the need to spit its cranks off every couple of miles. And the special pedals it uses are Donald Ducked.
he's going to borrow a safety bicycle and come along as my Egor. Am I to be the only Ordinaryenger?

Assuming I actually wanted to pull blokes...
A woman should try letting some air out of her tire--and thereby give a male biker who might happen to pass her by an opportunity to be a kinght in shining armor."
So I'm just going to ride around and risk puncturing on the off-chance that someone will take pity on me? And WTF is a kinght anyway?I can tell you from my own experience that I love men who offer to help me in any way with my bike
I sodding don't. They give me the right fucking hump.I do all my own maintenance and I build my own wheels. If, as has happened in the past, some know-it-all twit comes and tries to take the spanner out of my hands when I get a mechanical, I'll be very tempted to ram it up his patronising arse without benefit of so much as a squirt of WD40.
Crap article, crap attitude, crap magazine. I'll stick to Bizarre when I want a little glossy light reading.

For those of you who are too achingly hip to be seen within a country mile of a CTC ride, I've made a short film to show you what you're missing.
Warning: for those viewers of a nervous disposition, there is explicit man-on-man canvas saddlebag and white beard action in this film that has been rated Parental Advisory.

This was my winter commuter. Built from a nice 653 frame with lugged construction, I had the frame powder coated in a light sand colour for durability and built it up with some really great components:
Phil double sided rear hub with EAI 18T track sprocket on Open Pro rim
XT front hub, also on Open Pro rim
Stronglight Myagi track chainset with 48T chainring
Track chain
Nitto bullhorn bars 42cm
Nitto UI-5GX stem
SKS mudguards
Fork left uncut (I never got round to it) so you can trim to length and bung some spacers
Campagnolo Chorus 1” Headset
Diatech Dirty ~Harry brake lever
Shimano SLR front brake (no rear, obviously)
The frame measures 56cm centre-centre on the seat tube.
A few of the fasteners have rusted a little as the bike has been in dry, inside storage in my garage for a couple of years (see photos). You could totally ride it as is, but I’d be inclined to replace the tyres and chain before hitting the streets with it.
Like the other bike I’ve got up here, I’ll be really sad to see it go, but my knees just can’t take fixed any more so it’s time to find a few of my bikes a new home.
Pedals not included. Collection from UB6 - I’ll only consider posting it to you if it’s fully insured at your expense and you pay the full asking price.
