My point was about the vouchers only working in one selected shop. You couldn't get a voucher and use it to get wheels from Condor and a frame etc from elsewhere. All my vouchers have come for a specific amount from a specific shop. I guess you could get two bikes if you can justify it, that does make sense. If your employer buys it directly from their coffers with no vouchers or companies running it for them etc then they can buy it from where they want up to any value as long as the salary sacrafice doesn't take your net pay below minimum wage.
VAT point is true but the company is not obliged to give this back to you, many (inc mine) keep it to fund the scheme. Really pisses me off but they are entitled so they do.
As for suitable for purpose, you could buy a full suss, downhill MTB and commute on it, the only thing they want to see is that you are using it to get to and from work, but even that is never required to be proven.

Putney will sort you out, just picked up my Bob from there on Friday. They got me all the parts that I wanted, took them a while but that was down to their suppliers being shit. The only thing that will possibly frustrate is that you need to get it all from one shop. If I had of been paying cash up front I would have gone elsewhere as the delays were annoying, they will get you anything you want though. I've done the scheme 3 times now, it rocks!

'but in an accident with a cycle and pedestrian very minor injuries occur'
That's a bit of silly comment really, you can seriously fuck someone up by hitting them with 80+ KG travelling at 25+ MPH, that's pretty obvious. I do agree that both parties are likely to end up less injured in the bike / human collision compared to either getting hit by a car but getting twatted by a bike is not going to be nice.
One of my mates hit a guy really lightly, with his pedal, not enough to knock my friend off but the guy's knee went the wrong way (hit from the side at a crossing, knees don't bend like that I'm told) and now he will never walk unaided again.
Don't get me wrong, cars are v v dangerous in the wrong hands and the police would do better to be looking at them rather than us, it just never works like that. We're easy targets in a few respects, as mentioned in posts above.
Personally I consider £30 a fair amount to pay for the amount of time I've saved cruising through all the reds on my way around town.

htay i got mine for 650 ish, but had roughly 100 credit.
Yeah, Putney cycles.
It may be a little too much, but the wheels are absolutely solid. And i've been playing around for days and days- so happy! I even have forced all my friends to have a go.
So i guess, my input is, whatever makes you happy.......
But i agree, Wapping Warrior, can't wait to see you around, and less exclamation marks, please.Nah, I think that's definitely good value man, I'm still waiting for mine from there, waiting on some parts. Comes with Open Pros, Stronlight etc and the frame is the same price from them as it is from BJ direct. Plus they know what they're talking about and are a decent bunch it seems.

You were saying earlier that you haven't got your voucher yet, that your boss hasn't even paid it yet. It's not too late to get this sorted out and not get ripped.
Also if you want advice it might be easier if you were to find out specs of some options, post them up here and then we know what sort of things you're looking at.

Yeah but if you put in a bid that's £30 over the current bid at sub 10 secs to go the snipe won't get there in time in £1.50 increments. I rarely lose auctions if I'm there at the end using this method. It can only refresh as quickly as we can to know that it has been outbid and it has to keep doing it until it gets back on top.

Jesus, what a bunch of cnuts!
If you join the London Cycling Campaign you get similar levels of cover to CTC but it's cheaper and deals only with London issues, not sure if that's preferable to you or not. They do seem to make a difference though, they were a big force behind organising mass emailing to Ken about the proposed cycle number plate bullshit.

I used ETA a couple of years ago for a lone bike policy, had to claim, they were a little slow but they paid up. It is by far cheaper to get yourself home insurance with someone like M&S who don't ask for you to specify bikes or high value stuff (up to £4k) on the policy. This is good because elsewhere they hike up the premium when good bikes are involved because of the theft risks attached.

Ha ha, yeah, pain is the word. Apparently he yelped like when you accidently tread on a dogs foot. I can quite imagine!!
