vanilla or jonny cycles for me. love their bikes.
i dont think there's such a thing as a bike for life. your taste and purpose/use may yet change.
for me id be happy with a bike built from a £1k colnago frameset for sunday fair weather riding

thought it was cool when the french guys first came out with this. lots of skill and strength involved. looked like it evolved from climbing. running/climbing is to freerunning as cycling is to tricks. same sht.
one of the martial arts featured in bloodsport couldve been capoeira. the black dude, always very low on his stance. does the thomas flare (or is it flair?) thing on the floor and jumps on people's back, chops their head like a coconut...gonna have to grab that film now to check! on another film, eric bana doing his kickboxing moves in the film the castle. his kicks were awkward as fck...would pass as capoeira LOL

To be honest it seems pretty friendly and inclusive so far
you're one of the lucky ones. may have something to do with you rolling on white tyres? ;p
nice friendly folks here, i agree, but from time to time snobbiness comes up. fixed vs ss'ers, hybrids, tourers, roadies, bromptongers, anyone in hi-vi, etc etc etc

"The rest don't know, don't care or don't give a flying fuck." ... or might not be able to choose. If you're sitting somewhere in a poor country with nothing to eat, I guess you don't really care if burning down some trees is sustainable or increases your carbon footprint, as long as it gets you through the next week.
...or send your kids to work rather than to school, as long as it gets you and your family through the next day

...There were fewer people on bikes for sure... but somehow it seemed to me that all the cars were going especially fast?! Or maybe it was just because I was going so slowly...
it is in psssn rain that drivers drive like fckheads! driver's (esp buses and lorries!) visibility is reduced cos of road spray. stay well away! also, the speed they go at remains the same and most do not drive according to the conditions.
top this off with peds, peeking through their umbrellas, only look at car headlights. this is why the more cyclists there are (numpties or not) the better. increased presence = increased awareness for the likes of us
it's not fun riding in the rain

if you start off by calling it a project, your headed for trouble. why the fck are they called projects anyway? is this business talk creeping into the scene? do people call it a project so that they can put it in their CVs?
just build a bike to ride. full stop.
