yep. def geared, good strong wheels to carry the heavy load. mate of mine who regularly tours (he's done alaska, NZ, norway, iceland) uses a surly crosscheck. the toughest bit would be trying to go over the rockies, between vancouver and calgary, most interesting as well. much of the middle, from what ive been told is dead flat and boring (got a mate from winipeg).

I think what you want is a coaster brake. As badtmy mentioned, it's been discussed before. Don't remember if it were free/free tho. Seems like a lot of trouble just so that you could skid. Two brakes is the simpler solution. KISS. On the other hand, would be fun to put theories to practice!

cant find the actual date of the hillclimb. when is it?

abergavenny. my first ever sportive was iron mountain. over an hr of climbing and that's after 60miles! super fast downhills at the end of it tho. beaut countryside.

you guys doing a recce of the actual catford hillclimb stretch? wouldnt mind riding down there and try it out. was a nice ride last year.

bristol has hills. they crush the spirit. they make me say 'oh shit' when i see them. there is one round the back of the bridge that comes up from the bottom of ashton court. it's totally evil. park street is nothing.
