Its not entirely correct or rather the bit about 12 or 6v. Supernova for example make ebike lights in 6v. And B&M make some that will accept a range of voltages from 6-42v.

I believe there is an option to insure against customs. Pay £6 and BG will refund any customs charge. Maybe should've tried it.
