I work for a large company, and they are doing the 7% depostit thing. Seems to me that they're trying to make the best out of a shit situation.

So in a practical sense, you pay 7% and pretend not to own the bike for a little while longer.

Cyclescheme have arranged a deal with HMRC to extend the "hire period" by 4 years. Deal is you pay something like 7% of the voucher value as a "continuation deposit", don't make any more payments, and at the end of the 4 years the value of the bike is ~7% of the purchase price - they then keep the 7% "deposit" and you keep the bike.

It's either that or pay the 18 or 25% now (depending on voucher value).....

I know at least 2 big companies that are doing this with cyclescheme.....seems like the best way forward to me!

Playing around with Rockmelt. Seems like a Chrome clone, but with added Facebook + RSS. Nice, but a bit "meh" at the moment. Bringing Google searches up in a little floaty pane is a nice touch for quick searches though.

I'm starting to quite like it....not so good on a small (netbook)screen though. I've got a few invites if anyone needs one - not sure if it's still invite only? PM with your email addy if you want one.

One to watch out for - on my way back from a tour this summer I'd booked the bike into the van and paid my money. Got to Gare du Nord, finally found where to take the bike then got told I couldn't leave any luggage on it....I had 4 panniers and a pack on the rack......had to carry all the luggage on board by hand...real pita!

TGV's were good tho - had proper bike areas at the end of the end carriage. Local trains (TEN) also have bike areas....

I'm planning my first as a memento of my alpine trip this summer......thinking of something based on the km markers...

Thinking of keeping it clean and simple...The best I've come up with so far is something like this...

Reckon it could work? I'm thinking of having it on my calf.......

Thanks guys! Yep, made it to Nice and feeling good. It was an amazing trip - highly recommended - pretty tough, especially with all the camping gear, but if I can do it anyone can!!!

Yep - afaik, the official update will do the whole lot.....

So does 2.2 not do 720p straight off then?

720p seems to actually be a part of the associated radio update, which needs the phone to be network unlocked (mine was locked to Orange)

Do people actually take video with their phones? Is 720p from a phone actually watchable?
Oh and what's the unlock code thing for? Is that if you're locked to a network?

720p looks pretty good - I've seem some good quality stuff that people have done with it on iphone4

I'm investigating video from phones for my company (TV news - means all reporters, producers can have some sort of camera on them all the time in case they see something interesting...gets immediate pics before a proper camera can get there

So, review? What's nice? What crashed?

Plusses:
720p
A bit of a speed increase
Apps can be stored on SD - provided app dev allows
WiFi tethering
Flash 10.1 (Flash lite on 2.1) - bbc iplayer etc works a treat
battery life seems better - difficult to tell from 1 day
Fixed the problem with not reconnecting 3G after using wifi
Losing orange branding etc - would apply to any generic ROM

Minuses:
Some apps can't be seen in marketplace - something to do with devs not allowing for 2.2 - very annoying for me as one is slingplayer which I'd paid for! Had to torrent the apk to get it back (this will presumably be ok with the official 2.2 once devs tweak apps)
Possibility of bricking!

Followed the instructions to the letter and it worked first time.
I had to unlock first to be able to upgrade radio as well - that's what also enables the 720p - I got the unlock code from this guy on ebay

Finally managed to get 2.2 Froyo running on my Desire - unlocking, rooting and flashing....very scary on a phone that was working a treat beforehand! Froyo is great tho....720p video and apps to sd (when the dev allows) made it worthwhile. I haven't noticed the awesome speed increase that JIT is supposed to bring, it is the beta though.....

That's my worry! I may try to find somewhere to camp and do day trips to take in as many as possible....

I'm thinking of taking this in as part of my ride from London to Nice in August, but I've no idea if it's going to be feasible. I'll be touring with full camping kit and am in no rush - I've got the whole month off....I won't be fixed - I'll be on the tourer with some very low gearing!

Any thoughts?
