What's his employment history got to do with the quality of his frames? Also what's so wrong with being a Marine?
it's not about the quality really, i just prefer to not have anything to do with anyone who has anything to do with the US military, present or past (starting since the cold war). let's stop here before any discussions on this forum gets political again. and as i have said elsewhere on the forum i prefer to support UK builders. other than that it'll be cinelli or keirin frames

it looks quite off in the pics... another way to check the frame is if you put the frame on the floor without any wheels, align the top tube perpendicular to yourself (or the other way round) you should be able to see quite clearly (when it's that off) if you have even spacing between the dropouts and the centre of the frame.

mdja
cornelius blackfoot dude,
not sure I could or would wait four years for a bike. Seems long, hand crafted, lovingly made, understand all that but FOUR YEARS! Just long. Sure the bike is lovely, but I come back to my previous point FOUR YEARS!
If I waited 4 years I'd get something I was bored of 3 years ago. eg. 2 years ago I was riding an old kona with slicks round town and loved it. A year ago I put a fixie together and loved it. Then I built up a shiny swift road machine... Who knows what I would want in 4 years time... Probably a tricycle!
a christiana to put 4 kids in?

i'd say if you want fancy frames go with robin mathers, sure this man can do anything you see from moyer. cheaper and we're in the same country. order a moyer add on shipping and tax all that you could have 2 frames built by mathers or deck the frame out with absolute bling. i also had this discussion with punkpixel the other day about moyer both of us don't want a frame built by an ex-marine.
the XA he built is really one hell of a bike though.for me i dream about the day i can get a witcomb.

Mat Sinclair I ride 48- 17 and find it very very tough to skid without leaning so far forwards that I look like a bearded twat trying to audition to be the "Spirt of Ecstasy" off of a Rolls Royce.
I could paint my self silver and make a mint in Covent Garden.
Any tips? Also ride cut down teeny tiny fakenger flat bars…..don’t know if that makes a difference….but I ride clip less which I know makes a difference….
hahaha i like that...
i don't find it too hard to skid on a 48:17... the bars do make a difference. it's hard to keep the bike straight with tiny bars.
andrewleitch86 shouldn't 42x17 be quite easy? I noticed that I only get it right when I fully lock my left leg. I'm always tempted to bend it when I pull up with the right but whenever I do that I don't skid.
42:17 is almost a polo gear so will be dead easy you can easily do leg over handlebar skids with that gear i'm sure!

from what i heard, vaz is a bit hit and miss (depends on your luck - so IMO better not risk it). ask roberto, sure he won't ever trust anything to vaz anymore. my track frame i suspect was sprayed in vaz's as well, chips like crazy - one thing people tell me how to spot a vaz job is the white undercoat that shows up where you chip the paint.
i haven't really heard anything bad from armourtex and most people i know go there.

for me spinning is good on 165 cranks, i find myself lowering the gear ratio to spin more. i ride 48:19 now (my track frame is in the works.... again) and it feels great. if you're learning how to skid so you can ride brakeless i find skip stops more effective and they hurt your knees less.
jon: i skid with left foot forwards and my right foot pushes the pedals at the back and it works very well

HOSTS thing will definitely work. wicked trick it is.
velocity boy, would it be possible to have a "simple" version of this forum which strips itself (work naked) of all it's clothes (CSS Styles) sort of like bikeforums.net? it could help anyone disguise their use of the forum under the scrutiny of their employers.

second that. only way to go.
you can try 32-36 but you'll end up with a very unbalanced wheel in terms of tension... i really can't think of any way to spread even the tension with that configuration. don't know what'll happen on london roads you know.
