Not a fan of Crystal Palace, feels a bit disjointed, if you’ve got the skills for the bowls all well and good, if you don’t there isn’t much to do at the junior level. Lots of green space around which with a little investment could create a Brixtonesque space suited to various abilities and styles with more space to just roll around and figure shit out..

Managed to jar my shoulder falling over yesterday at Brixton trying to roll down one of the gentler windier sections into the bowls. Lot of discomfort in my shoulder upper arm, and didn’t get much sleep last night.
But feel like I’ve got to challenge myself every so often otherwise my progress is a gentle incline, not going to learn a lot by just doing the same few things over and over
Taking jnr to Crystal Palace today to see what’s that is like, not looking forward to having to carry pads, boards and associated kids stuff today. -
Woke up and before breakfast showed them the video above and immediately after watching they wanted to try to to do a rail stand and then drop onto the board. Which they did but they weren’t wearing any shoes so the grip tape scratched their toes.
I’m still taking that as a win!
They’ve seen kids doing versions of a monster walk (mostly to change direction) they themselves are pretty good at tacking so think the tricks in there show them what they can do and are achievable at their age and with the progress they’ve made so far, aren’t as daunting. -
Yeah seeing their frustration at the first few attempts I’m dreading trying to teach myself.
Agreed about getting more control and balance, I watched this video https://youtu.be/M0Z-_fZaM8E?si=PJSvUI5kprxF2uUo
And think I’ll show them too as it’s much more about being confident on their board and if they can gain that confidence then learning to ollie should come easier, down the line..
Also means I can head off the frustration by getting them to learn to control and balance on their board better. -

@pdlouche @Alf0nse have to say I can’t take any credit for jnr’s skating they’ve done the hard work.
Had a massive wobble this afternoon as I tried to talk them through how to ollie. They’ve seen big kids and grown men doing it and they want to as well. But currently don’t have the patience to do the small steps that a video will show you to get to the bit where you’re leaping with the board and then landing back on it.
Had a proper 30mins of sulking and sitting around after I told them no more practising to ollie.
Pulled themselves out of it, and then skated round with a new skatepark friend a couple of years older who rides a scooter. They were hooning round the bowls with massive grins. So it ended up all right. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get a 6yr old to do the steps that’ll help them pull an ollie let me know.
This is the video I showed them

Just read back to when I posted up jnr’s new board.
10 days ago feels like a lifetime. Their improvement from then to now is insane. They are now finding and skating lines in the big bowls, dropping in to the big bowls and using the raised lump with stairs carved in it, to start runs from, whilst I’m still trying to figure out how to get enough speed to get round one of the small bowls.
School finished so we’ve been going to Brixton skatepark everyday this week.
Starting to become regulars! And they won’t stop asking if they’re going back to the skatepark the next day. -

Fizik tempo beat
what is this?
blurb says:
Beat is a versatile, casual road cycling shoe that combines a sleek silhouette with the convenience of an SPD outsole for riders who enjoy exploring both on and off the tarmac. A lace-up road spd shoe for simple adjustability and superior comfort.Personally I'm not so sure, depends on how flexi that sole is?

Used the file on my t tool, to try to file away some of the excess, but it was more a case of shoddy Stanley knife work during the cutting away process.
Also don’t have a big file!
Next one we’ll do together and I’ll speak to their uncle about whether they have a big file to neaten the edges.Took them to the skatepark with it yesterday and they had a great time. I’m going to have to do some extra practice to catch up to their progress.

This is 75% of the original recipe that I’m adapting, tried 50% and it didn’t come out very large, so tweaked the quantities to get this size. And now (at the prove stage) it’s getting a bit too big. Like the size of the finished loaf, it’s just getting it out of the banneton which is proving the ballache.
Might be because my starter is a bit more vigorous, the flat is a bit warmer, or I’m not folding enough to build dough strength early on. -
Latest loaf, load more oven rise than previous but having major issues getting it from banneton into Dutch pot. When it proves, it’s growing bigger than the banneton, and then sticking to the top edge, which makes it a harrowing sticky fight to get it out of the upturned banneton into a fiercely hot Dutch pot..
Previous loaf interior, new loaf exterior -
New skateboard for jnr, first time applying grip tape so the edge finishing is a bit rubbish. But they don’t care so all good.
Used the last bit of snoopy grip tape from their previous board so there was some continuity. Like the idea of them seeing their growth/development over time through their boards (if they keep doing it)
Will be heading to skatepark tomorrow to test it out.. -

Saw this film come up on my YouTube feed. Love everything about it.
Especially the father’s unwavering support, hope I can be half as supportive and encouraging with my little person if they continue skating.

Was wondering why the around the nfl podcast had gone silent over the off season, seems the nfl network is going with a newer younger version
https://deadline.com/2024/07/around-nfl-podcast-nfl-network-surprise-cut-dan-hanzus-marc-sessler-gregg-rosenthal-1236003132/Currently watching the “new” podcast that’s taking its place, but wondering where hanzus will end up, sessler I could take or leave…

Have brought jnr a new deck as the mini cruiser uncle made for them is a mite too small now, toes or heels overlap the edge of the board by a toe or two. Skate warehouse had a decent sale on so got a 7.5 for £12. Leopard print graphics, because they love cats, but it’ll be the last board I choose for them. If they keep skating long enough to need another they can choose the design themselves (within the ones on sale and with the right width).
Looking forward to swapping the bits over for them. Will leave it until the summer holidays when they’ll be going to the skatepark on a more regular basis
Following! Interested to see how this works out. Any floor plans to share of the restaurant and how you want to return it to a residential space.
Also dibs for a long weekend for me and the missus when it’s finished!
