What you are suggesting with a repeater is certainly possible, but it's more the question of getting the technology for it.
Personally, if I was going to do that I would probably take some old PC (I have shitloads of them, could easily give you one), and get two wireless cards for it, then bridge the networks.
Loud, heavy on power, complex..As cheap bridging goes, LInksys WRT54G + DDWRT + 2 minutes of config FTW. As H said, there isnt much 3G around his place either, so he's going to be balancing the router or a mifi somewhere awkward and hoping for the best. Even the neighbours wifi signals arent that good.

Okay. Old Linksys +DDWRT ftw. I'm using the two bar signal in the bedroom, but if you think theres 3+ in the kitchen Ill move it. Its just bouncing Openzone into the corners of the house without signal though, so you'll still have to deal with the web page login annoyance. Unless theres something Im missing.

Just how big and how fast are these descents?
And if they are so big, what are the climbs like?
Lets just say its not the flattest 200k Ive ever done:) Every time theres a chance of taking the flat route, the ever-thoughtful organisers have made sure that you'll be climbing a long steep gravel road instead. Prepare for pain.
The descents are awesome though. And theres plenty of cake and wine to numb the pain. And then theres the grappa..

rather than take take it seriously, thought i'd mix it up. I haven't taken this as seriously as some people have and the level of slinging on here is unfathomable.
You of all people know that everyone here takes polo waay too seriously. Thats kinda the problem. Go back and read the BFFCOMM threads? You still think the "level of slinging" is "unfathomable"?
Did anyone bitching at b** bitch then?
Of course we do (although I dont see how explaining the rules is necessarily bitching). Go back and read the middle of this very thread, where we explained about teams and subs to Heythrop at the start of the season when none of them had played before. You can use this handy link to Jono's explanation and the discussion that followed it.
Sure, you can argue that its not specifically written in the rules this year. However, theres a ton of things that arent in there because theyre so fucking basic that none of us thought to include them. How many years have we had a league? And we still have to specify what constitutes a "team"? Whats really interesting about the above link is that, even though its not "written in the rules", everyone just read it and agreed with it because thats just how it works.
You know what? I'm disappointed for polo, because now we have to write this shit down for next year. More fucking rules. With another fucking rules poll or ten. Awesome.

- If Brendan 'rotates' his 'squad' of subs after every game, logically it ought to be a disadvantage, not an advantage, so why should the rest of us care?
Because his squads, who have undeniably varied in ability, have an impact on every other teams points and GD, not just his own. When we're playing grouped playoffs, where the playoff division may depend on the GD between teams 3&4, for example, the fact that one team played a much easier team than the other will skew that GD.
We debated this before league 1. Its the reason we had a subs rule in the first place. Honestly, if we could have found a way to limit subs to players of similar ability back then, we'd have done it, because it has an impact on every other team they play.
Sarah. Nobody expects Dave to play. But Brendan could have designated a permanent sub for either of his two missing players, and none of this would have been an issue. Sometimes its about playing within the spirit of the rules, not just the way theyre written.
Bill & Gabes are right. Its only a league, and this year we've had a lot of experiments and rule changes and debate, and its not worth the fighting over right now. i think there are a lot of rules we need to decide on before the next league though..

This isn't an attack on you B and it's not in the rules so up to a point you can do whatever you want [...] It also raises the point that we need an addition to the rules.
Absolutely. In league 1, the rules allowed only one sub. This year, whatever any of us think about it, theres no rule about subs other than them being non-league players.
We've always had a tradition of 2 permanent players making a team, but its not a written rule this year. Its worth remembering we also dont have a rule for formalising permasubs, or replacing injured players, so there isnt a rule that would let BAD play once dave was injured. I think its something we definitely need to clarify for next years league.
PK-Saturday 13th works for me.

Dude. The "possession" rule is way more open to exploitation than the goal scoring. Youve never seen a team a player or two down in their own half take possession and call a dubious mechanical, so everyone goes back to their own half? Rather than take away the teams right to call a TO after scoring, allow refs to penalise calling needless TOs, whatever the situation. (I'd still like to see the end of the "possession" rule though..)
While we're discussing the TO rules, I'd also like to see some agreement on when refs should use their power to call TOs. Refs should be able to call for safety/discipline/disputes, etc, but a mechanical or other issue that doesnt otherwise affect the game isnt the refs problem.
Anyway. Shouldnt this be in the Rules thread?
