My beef with the website and all the marketing was simply that it was patronising. It didn't remotely portray cycling as a genuine means of transport but as a whacky thing to do for a day, with crazy out-there names like Skid Squadron. Hey hey, get on a bike, kids! It should obviously be a family friendly day, and they are welcome to create silly little cartoons, but the whole thing seemed to suggest that cycling is best left to days when the roads are closed and we can all wear bibs.

leeww Have a look at the Etiquette & safety page - here was a chance for them to give new riders some hints and tips about road saftey, instead they used it as another chance to show how funny the designers can be with some, frankly unfunny, cartoons.
Same thing with the Preparing yourself/training guide - where they could have put some half decent information for people new to cycling - instead we get more government sanctioned humour ?
EDIT: I just found the start and end times - 11:00 to 4:00 - it was under the main page >> Event details >> Getting there is half the fun.
Yeah the whole thing is incredibly patronising. I ride a bike, so that, what, makes me a complete moron?

They forgot to mention double-checking your bike has wheels, drive train, brakes, etc.

Clothing recommendations: Chrome shorts, Gore jackets.
Chrome forks maybe... but shorts? That's got to chafe a little. Rapha stuff looks real nice, but doesn't seem hold up very well. It's hardly a broad sample, but I had a pair of socks that I got free with their magazine... ripped them trying to get them on the second time.

Check out the Buttered Muffin documentary about Vanilla Cycles mentioned in the video threat, if you haven't already seen it. No the most gripping of films but worth a watch. Personally I'd love a Moyer if I was going to get a custom frame from the US.
But anyhow... I digress. Get a surly Crosscheck, David.

From what I recall they're over the clearcoat, so you can just peel them off by either:
[ulist]
[li]scraping them off with a plastic tyre lever[/li]
[li]or heating them up a little with a hair dryer and just peeling them off[/li]
[/ulist]Both will leave sticky goo but you can clean that off with lighter fluid.

jonaent (Jon) It's not that I don't like the fact that it's popular..... but at the shop we are getting an awful lot of city/rich w**kers who have never ridden fixed before buying the most expensive builds and parts for expensive frames from elsewhere, all because it's cool, or poular, or the thing to be doing..... At first it was Shoreditch types, now, it's city boys..... I know which one i'd rather ride with!.... actually I'm not sure
Which is exactly the attitude I got last time I went to Brick Lane Bikes. Like I was being judged, presumed to be a hipster or something. Never mind the fact that a customer is a customer, a person a person and you're not inherently a wanker for being wealthy or working in the city. Did they all explain that their reasons for buying the bike were because "it's cool, or poular, or the thing to be doing"? Or were you just being elitest?

tomiskinky I find pedestrians to be responsible for most of my woes!!!
Tuesday night heading home, some ropey looking school bike type decided to test my nerve by casually walking into the road, grinning.
Fortunately for her, the meat head she was with grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out the way, as it was obvious at that point
she was gonna take a hit of some speed. I hate obnoxious youth... Hit a few on my bike, stops em grinning mind, unfortunately it
puts another scar onto me!!!Had to take evasive action when a drunk city worker lurched out from behind a van yesterday. I managed to avoid hitting him head on, but as I leaned the bike to one side to avoid hitting him with my handle bars, I brushed against his jacket. I felt a tug and heard a ripping noise but when I got home I couldn't find any tears. I guess he'll be sowing his pocket back on now. He should count himself lucky I wasn't driving a car.

Works fine on a mac in Safari. There is no reason why it shouldn't work in any browser on any platform as it just uses the address of the picture (not the page it's on, but the picture itself) surround by BBcode image tags. In Safari you can get the address of the picture by right clicking on it, and then selecting "Open image in a new tab". Go to that tab and select the url from the address bar.
