Before you start with a drill, why not try with come wire wool on a stick or a big bottle brush ? Then put some lithium grease on the Alu seatpost and see if it still marks the post when you take it out again.

This looks fun and is rideable to the start or joinable along the route, very local to me. How strict are the bike rules? Road bike with gears? Geared gravel bike? Single Speed Mtb with gravel wheels on?

I'd say if you are thinking of drilling bars or fabricating a custom mount for extensions, then why not buy some bars that are designed for mounting armrests and remove the worry of losing your teeth at some point?

Ultegra 11 speed is great and super reliable. I suggest the Genevelle set-up because they offer field repairability of downtube shifters without the need to reach. To be honest, though, I have never had any issues with Ultegra 11-speed mechanical, so perhaps I'm trying to solve an issue that doesn't really exist.

When I've thought this type of build through in the past, I keep wondering about Genevalle shifters on TRP Hylex Hydro brakes, Friction shifting makes a lot of sense to me for reliability and simplicity.

Why do you say this? I went to their showroom recently, and they seem very nice if a bit pricy.

I've been thinking about the same situation recently , fast and comfortable. Contact points is a big thing as you say as are fit and tyres. I think that a modern aero road bike with 32mm tubeless tyres , a comfy saddle , flared bars and mtb pedals with the cleats all the way back makes a lot of sense.

Seems like you are looking for a modern aero bike with some allowance for comfort, something along the lines of a Canyon Aeroad ?
