I’ve heard similar things in safety lectures where someone fires a round with just a primer which blocks the barrel . They then fire a full power round bursting the barrel. Burst barrels look like bananas like in cartoons.

That bullet is a lead core enveloped in a Full Metal Jacket hence the name of the film. Military rounds are it’s dictated by The Geneva Convention etc. if the tip is soft lead thats designed to really mess up what it hits.

Is it a normal bullet(the copper bit) if this is painted any funny colours it might be a tracer,explosive or incendiary round. If it is hand it in because it might contain phosphorus. If it’s explosive it’s “Section 5” you can only own it with the permission of The Home Secretary.

I’ve struggled to answer this, I grew up around firearms and am obviously more comfortable around them than most.
The skill involved in disassembling a round is minimal as are any risks involved.
