If you want an off-road boot, trials and Enduro boots are great if you are learning. I always wear trials boot personally. They have good protection, but they are a lot slimmer and offer great feel. The ones you are looking at the toucan look good. Tech 7 will feel bulky I think. Try them on though and see.

I still don't wear enough protective gear honestly. I always just wear jeans and MTB gloves. In my defence (I know there is no excuse) the bikes I ride now rarely go over 60.

@Jackytwoshoes even said it wasn't for everyone, but I know he was the best person to ask as he's a good guy who has been doing it a fair while now. It can be done by most people but you have to want to do it and be prepared. IMO even with the potential for having repairs done I still think you can make big savings as well and you get to own a bitchin car at the same time.

I still like @Soul idea for Kei only car in cities. Imagine if they banned all cars in cities and people could only drive Ami's that would be ace.

My B11 Sunny estate was used daily. It was a 1991 but based on an AD van which was produced in 1985 onwards and never changed. 1.3 4 speed, no power steering, no air con, no abs, no electric windows. Just fun basic motoring. I have an E91 now as I need to tow so I can see both sides but I would happily drive around it either.

If people don't want to spend the money on charges it is a viable option as there are many that could be put into reliable daily service.
Trouble is, your average person won't spend the time to do the research and maintenance to look after them, this is where the problem lies. Which is fine, people have busy lives and they don't need an extra stress of it.
My biggest concern would be stopping it from being pinched.

There is only one bad thing about old cars and that's having to potentially buy Imperial tools. Although that could also be seen as a positive.

This is right for sure but they don't ever mention it. The 660 has enough power and comfort for everyday use as well and the cars can be made don to a price point.

I love groms. Adventure builds are cool to look at don't get me wrong but if you want to ride it off road and not just pose on it there are better options. Stock suspension is good but basic obviously, you can do distance, but you won't get there very quick.

If you wanted good little off-road bike to tour around on get a Dr, or a serrow, or a KDX220 etc etc.
