@Skülly yes! Sorry had a bit of a moment there I can see what you’re both saying now! I might try go with a fork mounted one as it does seem to be the cleaner option thank you for the offer though!

The original cranks off this bike had the threads shot to bits, ordered these off eBay noticed it once they arrived, nds is the same length and not sure what the word is but tapers away from the frame the same amount so for the time being I had assumed all would be good bar the slight difference in looks.
Unless I can find a spare mc-33 nds crank arm, I reckon I’ll stick it out get the bike all up and running and worry about maybe getting some different cranks then.

Right well after spending this evening researching the different gear ratios I could get with a 1x set-up after @vp1337 sparked the flame.
I think im going to head down the path of making this a 1x7, potentially in the future i could swap out the freehub body and go for a larger 1x10 or so setup. With the rear deralliur I currently have I can go with a 38 front with a 14-32 in the rear witch to me will hopefully be enough range for the riding I will be doing.
This way I can keep my current cranks and the tireless polishing wont go unseen by the world.
This build is certainly going in a different direction to what I had originally planned but I couldnt be more excited!

Thats what im starting to think and after seeing those chainring aswell from @t0-ster I think 1x7 might be the way forward. I've sent over a PM so fingers crossed he has some left. Im assuming a regualar 8 speed chain would work fine with the narrow wide chainring?

Would love to go 1x but the cash dosent stretch to getting a new deralliur and bigger casette at the minute, thats definitely the plan for the future. Might have a lookaround for a cheapie tripple for the time being!
EDIT: I mean now you mention it i could definitely go 1x7 hmmm I am tempted.
EDIT 2: Just checked it is a 94 bcd crankset, now im thinking if 1x7 would be worth it if I went with the nice 14-32 cassette I found on the bay that should give me a nice range, defenitely easier than my 48x18 tracklocross gearing im on atm.

Did some eBaying today, have some nice condition stx rc cantis on the way
Was quite a challenge to find but a 73x110 un55 bottom bracket.
And finally some new tools, a couple cone wrenches so I can tackle the crunchy hubs hopefully some elbow grease and then some actual grease should do the trick. Finally a cassette removal tool to get the mangled cassette off!

This the fork you’re taking about? This was the other choice I was considering for the hopper but decided for the shorter a2c.
The reversed brake bosses are a little quirky wasn’t too sure how I would mount a canti hanger on them so I guess I would be v brakes only?
Anyhow they do look great for a sus corrected fork especially the twin crown!

@Skülly pm’d you about the bars

Haha yes I have now just realised that error I made, I did mean bullmoose!
In regards to the Thorn forks the one i have just placed an order for the Thorn Sherpa 26er wich should look pretty sweet, I measured the a2c of my sus fork and its only about a 5cm difference wich should lower the front end a little but not enough that the steering is made too twitchy.

First purchase from the bay arrived today, a pretty moderate condition Turbo saddle only paid £15 so not too bad going.
First thing to clean was the slightly rusted rails, but a scrub with some tinfoil left them looking like new. There was some peeling at the front that I used a little superglue on to keep it down, and a slight tear on the left side of the nose that I filled with some shoe goo and squeezed down so all is looking good now.
I do have one question for anyone that has restored old saddles though, towards the back is the usual scuff from years of use and whatnot, that see to have been given the shoe polish treatment, is there anything else I can do to make it look a little less scuffed and for that matter to just give the whole saddle a little love?

Got home from work to find these beauty’s on my doorstep, annoyingly I have been sent the all black version after ordering the tan wall. I have emailed chain reaction to see what they can do, but I’m starting to think now that the all black could look quite nice hmmm.
