I have booked flights to Leipzig, with bike luggage in April
Will be with @Belagerent to see @Tijmen and take in some of that German cycling culture (for better or worse)
Hopefully we find out if it feels more life threatening than Kent

the preformance market pales in comparison to the depths of "american who works in tech and needs to drive his truck over some otherwise pristine land outside the city. this is so they can forget the promise of technology from their youth has all but failed and trapped them and their ideals, all except the anodised new mexico components, pnw frames and japanese trinkets sold to them by people who are living the life they're desperately trying to live, curate or buy, but limeted to the invisible tether that is cat7 fibre, their works vpn and the compulsury 2 days in the office which provides them with healthcare and enough disposable income to distract from the destruction around them...all while listening to pearl jam, the beastieboys... velvet underground?? or some shit."
at least that's what market research tells us.

could put mt200's on a bike like this (40# new on ebay rn (no discs)), probably more comparible to the spykes as you ride premium gravel and not the downhill park.
there are m6100's on ebay used , but still pushing over 100 without discs in the uk
if the spykes are orderd tho? might as well see if you get on with them, it will at the very least be charming

My off road rides are rarely fast or far, so I'm coming at this build with that reality check squarely in mind. That dose of realism made me change my initial plan for a 650b x 48c wheelset for a cushier 26 x 2.3 one
the wheel size of free thinkers / cerebral cyclists/ the connoisseur / those who have experienced ego death etc etc

@Tijs they really are! 2 tone bags for all
@samrensho honestly lobster mitts were my best purchase of all time, paired with a nice fleece and a Uniqlo bomber I’m ready to take any slow paced ride and be toasty

Went for a little ride down the Hackney canal with a friend for coffee, it’s funny as they have essentially my bike but from another generation
When we pulled up to the boat house cafe I not only had a great can of Fanta, but were treated to a show.
Enter stage right, arcteryx dad, almond mum and 2 kids.
The dad, exasperated “i didn’t know it had sugar in ok?!”
The mum, in a questioning tone, “you didn’t know iced tea had sugar in? And the cinnamon bun?”
The dad tries to retort “you wanted a donut!!!”
The astute mother, clearly used to this level of debate points out “this is not a donut? This is a cinnamon bun, they’re different, can you change it”
The tone changes here, the dad, on his last legs emotionally lets out “I can’t change it, I don’t want to, I already had to go back in and cancel the bacon sandwhich”
At this point, one of the children between the two asks “daddy, why couldn’t we get the bacon sandwhich?” I felt sorry for this child, I knew what the reason would be, the mother did too and looked to the father to explain, it was his mistake after all.
“Because the bacon has nitrates in, and nitrates give you cancer so we can’t have it”
I stifled a laugh at this point, the vision of an almond mother agreeing with the comment, I can only assume while the white woman TikTok radicalisation she received releases morally just endorphins into her brain, be it that or the emotional cuckholdery of her husband was too much of a vision on this brisk Hackney canal.
Me and my friend simply looked at one another, both in stasis as we saw this parody play out, al I could do was continue eating my orange at this point.
Soon after, while we held our breaths, almost like nature documentarians not wanting to interfere with the Mother Nature, the couple left and we could breathe, laugh and gossip about it.
Unbeknownst to me, while I was buying my Fanta and my orange, my friend told me that the guy tried to ask about the bike, so I type this with the risk that he’s “on here” if you are, I understand if you want to be anonymous. It’s ok.

i think the tail end of that piece is quite enlightening to where labour economic fiscal policy is at,
Reeves suggested that she had no choice but to accept the assumption that public spending will rise by just 1 per cent overall from 2025, meaning significant cuts to unprotected departments. Asked if she would increase public spending, she said: “An incoming government doesn’t choose its inheritance. I have been really clear we are going to stick to our fiscal rules.”
She said that public spending could only rise if the economy grew. “I don’t want to see a return to austerity, but to be able to generate the money to sustainably invest in our public services, you’ve got to grow the economy.”
just seems an untennable position to address any of the increasingly large problems which face the under 40's today (elderly care, child care, housing, falling real terms wages, generational wealth evaporating etc), paired with this insistance of not addressing wealth inequality driven by austerity budgets of the last 15 years with the refusal to address capital gains or top rate taxes it's hard to see anything inspiring even if one focuses on the area of policy labour is rallying behind while making sacrificial lambs to ideals elsewhere.
They of course, in all these areas, offer schemes along the lines of the 25 year mortgage in other areas, nice ideas that help those argubly, least affected by the issues, relatively speaking. even judged in context of their objective (siezing centre right ground to topple tories by a large margin), this shows a distinct lack of vision or strategy for anything, feels like one is reading an economics text book from the 90's.

love this goofy guy, from his spindly legs and double goggles, to his exhaust dong and helpful servo arm
Painted him in my custom chapter colours; I was a lucky woman this Christmas and received a box of skitarrii rangers to add along with him, some blooded for him to face. Excited to do those.
The base was a joy to paint up and got me itching to do proper dioramas
