Oh thanks for the offer - can I get back to you on that in the evening? I should have one of those knocking about somewhere (probably even the exact model), but I can't guarantee that it's still in there amongst my general bike stuff.
Also yeah, I'll have my phone on me so I can do emergency routing if necessary (and as my Wahoo will be doing the GPS recording the phone battery should easily be >50% even at the end of the day), but I'm very much hoping to make the full loop! The bigger challenge will honestly be waking up early enough to make my way into Staines... :)

So I think I'm still in, if I can find my old small saddle bag (otherwise not so keen on carrying all kinds of stuff in jersey pockets...).
Can someone reassure me about the 'group riding' part of this? I've (almost) always been a solo rider, so not really used to being in a group, and I normally avoid drafting other riders. That being said, unless faced with an obstacle course of pot holes, I'm not the type to swerve around. I'm fine with being at the front, and I have a Wahoo I can load the route on, so I should be able to find the way.

Thanks - on the plus side, it means I'm not quite as stupid as I was starting to feel. On the other hand, how is a company like Cervelo not able to develop one good seat clamp design and more or less stick to it...
I had that thought too at some point - "oh if I was using one of those short wide cutout tri saddles, I could access the bolt from above". Then I looked at the bolt from above, and... yeah you guessed it, you can't use an Allen key on that bolt at all. I'll believe you it's still simpler with a cutout, but wouldn't it be brilliant if it was as simple as just inserting an Allen key from above... :D
I think if I do end up using a saddle with a cutout in the right place at some point, I might use an angle grinder (if I can find one) or just a saw to make a little slit in the top of that bolt so I can at least use a screwdriver from above.

A question for owners of older Cervelos: On the seatpost of a P3SL frame I bought, the bolt system on the seat clamp is rather annoying to use - one bolt is accessible from underneath, which is great. But the other one is a 'thumb bolt' that controls the saddle angle which, when you put the saddle on, is extremely difficult / annoying to operate, as you have no access from underneath (meaning I have to somehow jam my finger in to turn it). Am I missing something super obvious on this? Is there some kind of trick to make this easier? (It's very similar in design to a Fizik R1 seat post clamp, but that one has the 'dial' bolt mounted in a way that it is actually accessible even when the saddle is on the clamp)
My approach so far has been to dial it in roughly right before I put the saddle on, leaving the other bolt completely loose, and then to try to do the rest once the saddle is on - but you can't tighten it too much beforehand, otherwise it's impossible to get the saddle on.
Surely there must be something I'm missing? Grateful for any suggestions!

Yeah of course it is, and they definitely can't be trusted - but again, what would you expect a Tory to say to that. She's hardly going to admit to that on live TV, so the entire exercise is just pointless - especially if the BBC then doesn't have the balls to confront her with that directly and not let her get away with some vague "clearly she's trying to make a point".
-
Well I mean, she wasn't going to go "yeah we're untrustworthy and unreliable", right? Honestly that whole 'discussion' segment on the BBC was stupid anyway - clearly proxy voting is something that is needed, and that's pretty much that problem solved! The rest is Siddiq's private choice to make and inviting people to comment on it in that weird confrontational setting is a bit presumptuous anyway.

Well... I don't think it's fair to compare that. Trump and Brexit wasn't about a vote by 650 people with relatively well-known views (and even then, the more reputable polls weren't that far off, people just weren't taking the numbers seriously). It's hard to factually disagree with what Badenoch said regarding the vote outcome. Any future scenario is 'hypothetical', but in this case that outcome is very likely - currently the betting odds on the Commons rejecting the deal are 1/100.
I don't know, out of all the vile shit the Tories say day in day out, I'm not sure this is the most egregious example.

I think her point was that the Government being defeated 421 v 198 is not going to make much of a difference than if it was 420 v 198.
That's definitely how I interpreted that sentence too, with what we know about the predicted outcome of this vote, she's most likely correct. Not that that would be a reason not to let someone vote of course.

Stealing from /u/RoyalHelicopter on reddit:
Here are my predictions
May pulls the fire alarm in an attempt to delay the vote
Jacob Rees-Mogg will demand a duel with Boris Johnson over who will replace May.
Jean-Claude Juncker will enter the House of Commons bearing arms and riding horseback, declaring that Belgium has taken control over the United Kingdom.
Banksy will trigger a hidden shredder that will turn the maze to bits
Corbyn will state his opinion on Brexit

but I don't think many could argue that the EU have been flawless in this shitstorm.
My biggest issue here is that a lot of people were going into this process with the attitude of "we have the upper hand, we'll just have to wait and call their bluff and they'll fold", indicating they were in favour of aggressive negotiating, pressing any advantage the UK has. Then when this turned out to be a total fantasy and the EU was clearly more in control of the whole thing (as you would expect, seeing as it is the local superpower), suddenly there was much crying and whining about the evil EU and their dastardly tactics.

Weren't the opinion polls prior to the referendum mainly showing remain as more popular than leave?
For some time, yes, but it was showing it as being extremely close either way. The polls were really not far off at all, people just didn't take them seriously it seems.
I'm even aware of people who have moved from remain to leave as they've not been happy with the EU's attitude during the process
Now that really is a special type of 'head up their own ass' though.

Oh yeah there's definitely some tension there. I think for me there's a difference between just putting relatively normal stuff on your build that you think looks cool, and making a very conscious effort to emulate something as you say, without understanding why anyone is doing things in a certain way. Plus to me there is a big difference between someone doing something on their own bike, vs trying to get money for some monstrosity they dreamed up like the Jokfil people.
Obviously, as with many things, there's not a super sharp distinction! And a lot is super subjective, like some of the paintjobs posted on here that I actually kind of liked. (NOT the Anime bike further up though!)
I've not actually encountered many 'anti' things in the wild - I think the worst one was this handlebar. Now that took a lot of conscious effort to make it as ridiculous as possible. (And no it wasn't loose, it was fixed in this position!)
I see the issues with the seat clamp.
But looking further up, at the saddle / seat post interface they used with the P3SL for example, they could have massively improved the manipulability of that without changing anything about the basic design. It just really feels like no one could be bothered to put in the extra bit of thinking to get from this to something like the Fizik Cyrano bolt system that has the same basic footprint in terms of where the bolts go, but is just absolute miles better in terms of ease of assembly. Essentially just because the 'thumb' part of the bolt is below the clamp rather than above it... so you can actually access it.
I guess what I'm saying is that the design just feels a bit rough around some of the edges, which personally surprises me considering this is not a cheap brand at all.
(However, I really bloody love my 'new' frame, even though it's possibly a bit on the big side for me, so it's not like I'm regretting buying it)
