I get that he's a legend of the sport etc. but I thought that points jersey wearing was quite strict?

Yup, my current J&L is pretty worn down after about 3,000 km (rough guess) - not sure if that is a reasonable wear rate or not. Commuting every day in all weathers.

Two budget options I've encountered for that tooth/BCD combination:

'J&L' brand on eBay, alloy NW ring for £20ish.

Or a Lasco steel ring from SJS Cycles, £4! This is NOT NW, but single specific, so tall teeth, no ramps etc.

The Lasco is what I'm about to replace the now worn out J&L with, hoping that steel will last longer than alloy and the non-NW aspect won't matter. This is for a commuter though, not a mountain bike.

Do you have a bungee cord which has lost its pizzazz and joie de vivre? If so, cut it and slide off both hooks, and use a section of retired inner tube, length of your choice, to replace. Stretchy, grippy, new bungee cord which won't soak up water when it rains!
