Interesting, but I think we both know I wasn't trying to claim any actual legal right to bear arms!
Whether officially binding or not, a quick Google search shows multiple sources with the same crest and motto for both families, and I found that curious so wondered if anyone knew more.
Late response, but generally in the UK ( and most Western European countries) Heraldry is owned by a specific individual. Family crests and coats don’t exist, arms are owned by a single armiger (one who owns the arms) and transmitted father to son. Second, third, fourth sons would have devices that would indicate so.
I don’t think there are rules governing motto, you have multiple clans using “Touch not the cat but a glove.” Technically clan crests are the personal property of the clan chief, anyone however can display a clan’s “crest badge” in a single colour.

Shit! Repairable?
Nope, or not worth it. I’m sure @Hulsroy could work some essential oil magic on it and make it amazing, but me? Not so much.

I would get a second opinion on whether it could be threaded, or not.
Contact your local frame builder.
Threaded and threadless steer tubes are not the same. You’re not supposed to cut threads into a threadless fork. The threads in a threaded fork are rolled pushing the threads out a bit.
It’s do-able, and I’ve done it but the three frame builders I’ve worked with refused to do it.

Maybe not domestically, almost certainly in regards from getting them from Japan to the US.
The other company that we deal with fairly regularly is Simworks who is much smaller and is also shipping tyres from Japan. Prices have increased with them, but not as much as Rene Herse. Also with Rene Herse these price increases only are for tyres and not for anything else they sell.
-
I'd argue those tyres were never originally intended to be retailed wholesale. I'm guessing they were low margin for dealers to begin with, let alone once you overlay the current global supply issues and skyrocketing shipping costs.
They pretty heavily recruited dealers and pushed for large orders a year ago. Their tyres were pretty close to keystone for pricing.
If it's only a 'suggested' retail price then what's stopping you from passing on the increase?
If you sell above MSRP it’s pretty noticeable to the customers. Looking up products and reviews is almost de rigueur in 2021.
At the end of the day they either make commercial sense for dealers or they don't. Sounds like they don't.
True. bike shops are suffering, and closing right now, not due to lack of sales but due to lack of available product. If they had been honest with shipping times and not tying up bike shops money for weeks at a time I’d probably be less pissed.

WTF is a 'Covid fee'?
The email I received states it a temporary price increase to cover things like shipping price increases. FFS shipping rates have not increased $5 per tyre.
I'm not sure that JH shills in the normal sense; I get the impression that JH genuinely believes in the stuff he sells/has drunk his own kool-aid, and through luck or design has found an customer base willing buy his reassuringly expensive wares.
He used to talk about other manufacturers products and such in his blog, now it’s just about his products. Perhaps schilling isn’t the right term. The blog just went from being educational to being an ad for his products.
Even with those fans, not sure that hacking off your dealers is the best way forward...
I kinda forgot that there was also a note about not opening any new shops/accounts right now. Perhaps it is just an attempt to get rid of dealers and streamline it all to direct sales.

Tell us more.
It was taking them 1 month to get in stock product out the door this year to dealers, if customers ordered directly it was shipped within a few days. Grossly over charging for shipping also appears to be common in the last 9 months. We just got a notice that shops will be charged a Covid fee of $5-8 per tyre ordered, we are NOT expected to pass this increase along to customers and MSRP will remain the same.
I'm not a huge fan of Jan, but you sound particularly bitter for some reason?
On an non business front, his blog has become nothing more then schilling for his own company. He gives backhanded compliments to others in the industry. And the change of name from Compass Cycles to Rene Herse is complete “bicycle-reenactment.”

47x18
69 gear inches (on 28mm tyres).
John Allis told me “69 or your doing it wrong”. He coached the Harvard team from the back of a fixed gear. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Allis

I am just not sure whether a drain hole leads to even more water down there or if the benefit of air circulation would prevail 🤔
I’ve have drill drainage holes in innumerable Indy Fabs in my life. The BB shell was blind to the seat tube and would collect water. I don’t believe that a 4mm hole in the BB shell would allow in too much water and most would quickly find its way back out.
