Cool, if the spacing is 135mm it's easy to convert to QR. If it's 12×142mm it depends whether or not it's possible to swap the end caps I think. Would you be able to measure them and get back to me?

HY/RDs seem to be the same price on eBay at the moment. Which is better?

Are those wheels still about? If so I have questions:

• what's the hub spacing? Can the rear be converted to a 135mm QR?
  
• is it possible to swap to a regular old Shimano/SRAM free-hub body?
  

I also broke a 10-speed chain on its maiden voyage after spending about an hour trying to get the pin back in. Seems like maybe quicklinks are the better approach.

Lidl's getting in some Baufix coloured lacquer sort of stuff next week. Will it work for an ultra-cheap fork respray? It's not worth the effort of having the old paint removed so I was just going to spray it on top.

CRC was selling the 2017 ones for about the same price but sold out of the normal sizes pretty quick. Small sizes are gone as well now. Looks like they build up into really nice gravel bikes.

It was on my watchlist but a) it's not got rack mounts b) I've bought something else now.

Also, what are my chances of finding some cable disk brakes that share pads with Avid/SRAM DB5? Avid BB7 (or something) seem likely but I'd prefer something like Spyres or HY/RDs with double piston thingies?

It's almost as if the pads or something is knocked into a more locked in position when I pedal a bit and it stops the noise immediately.

I have no idea whether this is possible but maybe the wheel is slightly misaligned and pedalling a bit is enough to pull it straight.

Yeah I was trying to achieve a sort of ghetto dirt-drop sort of thing but the bars aren't quite right. I'll try with the other stem and see how it feels.

There are an immeasurable number of things that would make it look a lot nicer!

But honestly there's no way I can drop that stem any further, the drop is already insane. I'm going to switch back to that MTB stem (up the thread), sort out cable routing, get some bar tape on and put on the new brakes and that'll help a lot. Also Lidl are getting in some cheapo black rattlecans in a week or two so might buy some of them and go wild on my letter tray rack and fork.

Not sure, bike's at home and brakes are at work (with me). It'll be Sunday before I can check.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Rim brakes -> cable discs and compressionless outers seems like a great upgrade path! Especially if your 105 stuff is in decent nick.

Plus building a bike from frameset up is great fun

I test rode an Arkose today; it's pretty much exactly what I want, except with the option of a rack on the front. So regarding wheelsets and finishing kit my current plan is to pretty much copy the Arkose setup exactly.

In other words I want an Arkose with a different frame, hence the new thread title. No doubt the greatest pun I'll ever come up with in my entire life.
