My girlfriend just reminded me of the time she was driving through wycombe town centre with a friend one afternoon, they were chased by some youts on foot down a main road demanding their phone numbers. So she does the same now.

I was living in Chesham at that point but I was still in a pram. I think it always was Chesham High tbf but I am still bitter for not being accepted into grammar schools because I failed my 11+. As if thats still a thing!

@Danimal well put. The 'dark side' is certainly no worse than London boroughs but you wouldn't expect it out there hence its more significant

Wycombe station is actually situated in the middle of the longest and steepest hill on earth. If the better half isn't keen on hills then the chilterns might not be the best option

I find Bucks generally quite dry of things to do and of culture. There are no decent major towns or cities when compared to Herts or Berks, though much better than Beds

I suppose so, I guess I just compare it to Chesham / Rickmansworth / Chorleywood where you can still use your Oyster card, though the commute will drive you to an early grave

I'm from that area originally hence I know HW well, I wouldn't recommend the town its-self. It is quite bland and there is a dark underbelly of crime and drugs which they have never really managed to shake. Attempts to neaten the place up (such as building the Eden shopping centre) didn't quite work, every time I visit more shops and pubs are being closed down.

The surrounding villages are very nice, such as Great and Little Missenden, Hazelmere, Penn, Hughenden, Kingshill etc., however like @skinny said its a tory stronghold which isn't always bad but you will encounter a lot of entitled people. Plus if you are going to commute on the Chiltern Line from HW then prepare to part way with about with a few thousand £'s on season tickets.

After hitting it for a while with a mallet I noticed the bearing cup became loose, so I could manually unscrew it with the use it a small flat head screwdriver
