Rob Warner has/had one, and given his height I'd say his bike is as long as yours @Dammit

Well, turned out Aston Hill was dry ish. Actually the grippiest conditions I've ridden it. The drops on the black run were easier without having to worry about dust bowl washout corners after them. There were a few slightly greasy clay slabs on the XC track to warn you what a terrible idea it would be to ride it in the wet though...

I've been speeding in the middle lane and still getting undertaken. I'm not pulling in to the left lane just so some pillock doing 120 doesn't have to undertake then swerve back into lane.
I'm also an Audi driver, I think having a nearly 30 year old one makes you feel like the frequent Audi driver bashing isn't directed at you!

I can't believe how expensive they are here.
My brother paid around £4k for one with around 110k miles in Japan. I've seen a few in NZ go for around £5-6k but with half the kms.
Cool cars though and pretty rare. Sound great, and my brother's one has been super reliable and actually not as terrible on gas as you'd expect. Tax here is a killer, but I think the imported ones often sneak into the lower tax bracket somehow.

Hi
I bought one when they still had size small.
It's lovely, but to be fair, it's not the same as a 'real' french or Tunisian Look. Even down to the box it comes in, user manual, etc. However, good tubeset and they're quite rare in the UK. Theres a beaut one of the pre release chrome lugged versions for sale on the forum - same frame but way more special, for a price you couldn't build if you could ever find a frame. If you're a large I'd go for that (and presuming it hasn't sold)

I grew up living off grid.
We had to buy in things like gas. We went into town every 1-3 weeks but could stretch it to less frequently.
Growing up on a remote block of land, it was an incredible experience. I'd happily share my experiences but I think but it's maybe not as relevant to people trying to do it in the UK. I still go back to the farm sometimes and enjoy no mains power, cellphone reception, internet or even phone line (currently - we had one growing up).
I now live in London zone 1 and work in tech. Weird world huh.

If I remember bleeding the mk2 system can be a right pain, particularly with he heater core than can have jammed bypass valves etc. If you're lucky, maybe the first mechanic left a giant airlock somewhere. However with those symptoms you'd normally get a sniffer test, and as it sounds like you have and emissions were detected in the coolant.
Thermostat is also an easy change. The normal drill... check coolant is flowing --> change cap --> change thermostat --> bleed coolant system
I'll ask my bro has literally done this dozens of times on various golfs. You're not loosing coolant except the stuff which ejects out expansion tank right?

I remember the car magazine days too, likewise, that's the exact period when I was first interested in cars. And the GT3 was the standout. You probably remember the red one in the Autocar review with Chris Harris driving on the cover - he was young back then!
Where did you get the suspension work done by the way?

Hi
Campag Khamsins, good condition, brake tracks are great, hubs run sweet. Don't seem to have had much use - I bought for winter wheels but they didn't see the road once.
I've fitted a cassette, I think it is a chorus 12-25, this has seen a bit of use but it didn't skip on a new KMC X11 when I used it on a trainer.
£80, pick up central London near Angel.
Cheers
I've never quite got over vans after working in bike shops for years.
2WD 3.0 turbo hiace, RWD, skinny wheels and nothing except a bike in the back (of course you don't have to take the wheels off, these things can fit 5 bikes in them wheels on), and I've had more fun in that on a gravel road than I have had in some of my more 'sporty' cars. It was considerably easier to lose rear traction in that thing in any thing I've driven since. Extra points for being able to carry a motorbike and having a super low load tray.
I'm not saying they handle well or have nice interiors, this thing barely had rear brakes, but I was happy doing long road trips in it to ride awesome places. Did get it stuck in a field once though. Good times. I feel a nice transporter I'd always care too much about, unless it's something like a t25 syncro I'd rather have a bit of beater.
