It seems that the 2018-2019 rim brake generation of the supersix are few and far between (older versions around, but I seem to remember that 2013-2016 versions had the tendency for serious tyre clearance problems if you were unlucky? Plus the version that has the 25.4 seatpost is the 2017 version)
So I was wondering (to solve the 31.6 seatpost side of things) - what about if I just shimmed down to 25.4 and put in a cannondale save seatpost? How shit would that look? Practically it seems that it should clamp ok, with enough carbon paste
I’ve found a version where someone has shimmed down to 27.2 and that looks fine - plus had the added bonus of weight saving (https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=127910)
-
Out of interest - the recently ‘old’ generation of the supersix (e.g 2018-2019) - does anyone know what the actual weight difference would be between a hi-mod and non hi-mod rim brake would be? I think (from memory) the non-hid mod was still pretty decent.
I’m only asking because I’ve got a 2012 ‘normal’ supersix and there’s quite a few of the newer style around on eBay, but tempted by a hi-mod option but they are quite a lot pricier. Basically I think the main benefits to swapping for either version would be
- Lighter (the old supersix frame set is just over 1kg, the fork 450g)
- Hopefully more comfortable (the old frame set is very stiff and has a 31.6 seatpost)
- Fractionally better tyre clearance! I only want to be able to fit 28mm tyres without fear
- Lighter (the old supersix frame set is just over 1kg, the fork 450g)

Cheers - it does seem more versatile than the Whippet (I’m trying to not think, ‘lighter - better’)
I was also looking at the giant fathom (the new one) but practically the two aren’t hugely different spec or geometry wise. (I’d get the 29er version). Price wise, I think they’d end up pretty similarly if you factor in a dropper into the On One
Also...I cannot find the giant in stock anyway so it’s kind of a mute point...

Hey all,
I’m emphatically a roadie, so in need of a bit of geometry advice.
Basically I might get one of the two on-one options below or any other options about the same price...
On one scandal. Which is quite well priced at the moment. Seems (from what I can find) to have fairly normal geometry, ok spec list and (critically) in stock. I’d add a dropper post.
On one Whippet Equally well priced. Seems to be quite traditional XC geo. Would also add a dropper.
I basically just ride byways on a gravel bike and would like to be a bit less battered. Would like to do occasional trips to wales/Scotland/do alfreds way etc.

Thanks guys - all PMs replied to. Some interest at the moment in the compete package so will see if that pans out otherwise I think it’s Glws, McClure then Bonjour for the 650bs in that order...

Kinesis Tripster AT
Size: 55.5 (Geometry here)
Details below and photos.
Spec:
Frame and Fork: 55.5 Tripster AT, Arran Blue with all the original bits and bobs.
RD: RX-800 (Happy with up to 11-36, 11 speed, ultegra level)
FD: GRX 400 Chainset: GRX 46/30 rx600 (10 speed, but quite happy with 11-speed)
Seatpost: Thomson Elite
Saddle: Fabric (Steel Rails)
stem: 120mm cannondale C2 stem. I might have a 100mm stem somewhere as well
Handlebars: Zipp Sl70 (I think)
Shifters: RS685 (11 Speed, ultegra level).
Brakes: R8070 Flatmounts, I think.
Chain: KMC - not sure which model, will check.
Bottom Bracket: Dura Ace 9000.
Cables: Jagwire (new)/Shimano Hydro hoses.Wheelsets
- Stan Grail Wheelset - 700c, fitted with 40mm G-Ones and 11-34 HG800 cassette
- Hunt Adventure Sport Wheelset - 650b, fitted with 42mm WTB Resolute tyres and 11-36 Sunrace Cassette.
Both wheel sets have the same rotors - RT76, 160mm
I've had this for about two years and had a lot of fun on it, but times are a changing and I've been getting back into road cycling. I'm based in Banbury, but would be happy to drive somewhere reasonable to drop this off if buyer pays petrol.
Would prefer to sell as a full package with both wheelsets or sell as a complete and if the buyer doesn't want the 'spare' wheelset sell that off.
I'm asking for £SOLD all in (both wheelsets). Happy to negotiate for price with just one, but let's say £SOLD one of two wheelsets. I can't see many examples for sale at the moment, but I can see that a similar spec goes for £2,200 new, so it seems right as a guess.

@gbj_tester, @ChasnotRobert, @withered_preacher - would something like an isolation platform resolve it? Or is a shelf the only real solution?
I believe that the q acoustics 3010is are supposed to be quite happy next to a wall - indeed, I used their brackets, so you’d assume (hopefully) that they’re indeed to be mounted near a wall.
Extremely glad that I don’t need to move the speakers. Existing domestic views would be strong there.

Help! (Version 2)
I wall-mounted the speakers, after much agonising/domestic debate with my partner. I did test them with a record to check for feedback given the closeness and it seemed like nothing was coming through. Unfortunately (lucky me) it seems that that record was an outlier and they are simply too close and I’m getting more feedback when then when I had them on the floor.
What do people suggest?
I think my options are:
1.) try and mount the speakers higher next to
The shelves. Maybe get someone in to hide the wiring in the wall. Because of the door, I can’t go much wider, unless I move everything to the left. Even then, I think that only offers about 10cm more room2.) move the turntable to the corner pictured, with the rest of the hi-fi. Ideally on shelving separately.
3.) other ideas? I think it’s the proximity rather than the isolation that’s the issue. It’s only 20cm to the turntable from the speakers
-
Thank you! I took a look at those shelves - I’m pretty sure they won’t meet with the required approval...I had a crack at trying to work out where else I could put everything (maybe, moving the whole setup minus the speakers, elsewhere in the room but leaving the speakers on the dresser)
But I think I’m just going to try wall mounting the speakers themselves - as I understand it, it’s the vibration from the speakers that interferes with the operation of the turntable, so if i wall mount them, that should resolve it. I will definitely test a few positions before I start drilling - I’ve only got wired speakers, it’ll be one person holding a speaker and another listening...
-
-
Thanks guys - the basic problem is space! With the door where it is and the width of the wall, practically it’ll be more of an isosceles triangle...
For these speakers, I don’t think it’s as vital to get them spaced from the wall since they (I think) are designed to be tolerant of small spaces!
Although reading the link that @dbr posted, the solution might be to mount them on the wall but aim them not for the sofa on the opposite wall (Long, narrow triangle) but for the room midpoint, to reduce the angles and to mitigate the door problem. My main concern is how far they should be from the turntable to avoid interference - I wouldn't find any set guide on this.
I did consider wall mounting the turntable, but the shelving above is quite narrow, so it’d stick out quite a lot! Plus our house is so uneven that a level shelf looks quite hilarious...
-
Speaker placement help please!
I've got Q-Accoustics 3010is hooked up my technics amp and I've put the speakers on the floor as a temporary measure (they were driving too much interference near the turntable).
I think the only solution might be to wall-mount them to get them the right height - any suggestions on location/placement? It's only a 2.8m by 3m room....
Any suggestions?

Merida big trail is what I got in the end - I then put tubeless tyres on it.
It has the basic tick list -
Otherwise, I’d recommend something like a whyte - but they go up to about 1.3k to get ok spec. Alternatively singletrack world has a good classified forum, if you just keep your eyes peeled.
I was slightly torn between a trail and more xc MTB - but I’m glad I went with trail in the end. Ultimately it’s just more fun (if heavy!)
