A couple of hours ago I was intentionally run down and doored by a white van man who took offence to me being in his way on the road. He undertook me and swerved while opening his door to push me off into oncoming traffic. I went flying face first to the floor, and he got out and shouted at me again and got back into his van to drive off at speed.
Luckily I got his reg, but only 1 witness saw it, who i have the details of. Pretty bruised up and a few cuts. Bike is battered, and a mechanic friend has recorded damage.
I didn't call 999 but called the police switchboard instead and have a incident number, and will be getting an assault form from the police tonight.
I had a bit of read of the accident thread. Do i need to get doctor of hospital evidence of my injuries if I want him taken to court? I spoke to a doctor who said it would be better to have a police surgeon document it, but I don't know about this.
Anyone got other advice?
Thanks.
Insane behaviour, he has to be taken off the streets, Good luck with the police, can I suggest this is posted as Rider Down, so that it can be included in cyclist incidents?
Heal soon, do you have a lawyer yet? If not contact the LCC or the CTC who will help, if I can offer any advice, just PM me...

Hi AllAfter what happened to Chrystelle on Wednesday, my sister and I have decided we may not be able to change the cycling world, but we can try and stop any other cyclists being in danger at that junction. We have arranged a petition to try and get the road layout changed and the road widened to make it safer for all traffic. I have included the link, please please please help us to change this horrible crossroads.
Chrystelle was an experienced and proud cyclist and we cannot begin to understand how this happened. If you would like to support our cause in memory of our very special cousin please go to

It's here:
http://www.londonfgss.com/forum40.htmlIf anyone knows of an accident or incident please make a thread in there.
The thread title should be in this format:
YYYY-MM-DD - Incident Type, LocationYYYY-MM-DD = Date that it happened. We're putting the dates in the titles so that they become sortable in the forum.
Incident Type = "Rider Down", you can vary this with any facts that you know such as "Rider Killed" or "Possible Rider Down", etc... just tell us what you believe has happened, and "Rider Down" implies a lack of knowledge about the outcome.
Location = Street or junction that the incident occurred on. We're putting the locations in the title so that a scan or search can reveal places that appear to have a higher risk than other places.
The purpose of putting them all in one forum is this:
1) To assist other people with the collection of much needed data
2) To allow the RSS feed for that forum to be an alert systemI hope it helps in some ways even though it's grim.
Could we have a link in the masthead?

Brixton road, 8.30am this morning (16/10/2009) northbound just after junction with Ferndale rd, rider was on gurney, propped up and talking to the police/medics, driver was being interviewed by the police.
Velocio, may I request that we have a separate thread for these, I think we (the forum network) may be the most powerful tool for collating witness reports of cycle incidents.
It's part of my work to quote statistics on the safety of cycle transport and of late I have become sceptical of the methods of collecting such information.
We, as a distributed network of cyclists are all over London (and elsewhere) all the time and as such are most likely to see or witness the aftermath of anything happening on these streets.
I strongly feel that most cycle incidents are not reported to the police and if medical attention is required, is that collated and if it is,who can get access to that data? A lot of the incidents I know of are by hearsay and were not reported to anyone. This information could be added to the map of fatalities which is already being generated and could possibly identify high risk spots before a fatality occurs.
I'm going to copy this info to the Action Group, this seems a possibly fruitful avenue to pursue. -
Who shouted at me on Kennington Road this evening? I almost went into the back of a van when I turned 'round to look... ;]
Rare Clefty spot about two mins later while I was at a red light, then snowy doing a Sainsbury's run while I was enjoying a post-slave shift tonic at Le Regent... I'm not suited to work, I was born to rock my arse orf... And loaf...Sorry, I'll shout quietly in future...

just saw on twitter that a woman got hit by the 29 somewhere in London today and was taken away in ambulance. Hope you ok lady. Any more info on this Leman St incident? Every time I read these threads I just freak out...lets hope it wasn't a fatality...Digger - was that confirmed? :( x
My friend who witnessed it says there is no doubt, a guy crawled under the bus to attempt to help but there was nothing to be done, my friend found a link to a report on a local London news service, which I haven't managed to find, she says the cyclists name was Claire. My friend says she will send me the link tomorrow and I will post it here.

10 am this morning, woman cyclist dragged under the left hand side wheels of a bus on left turn, junction of Leman st, commercial rd and Whitechapel rd. Fatal.
Witnessed by the receptionist of Good Times Tattoo on her way to work, we were just discussing what bike to get her, she's not going to be riding in London now. -
-
Does anyone have any idea where Kate from Good Times Tattoo has gone?
My girlfriend booked an appointment with her a few weeks ago only to get an email from Good Times yesterday saying she has left? My girlfriend really felt comfortable with her, so if anyone has info it would be appreciated?
Inka, Brighton. Say Hi from me...

It seems to me that the majority of these signs are in Westminster, who are cunts as regards bike removal, I've had arguments with the street wardens (thugs) about what their legal rights are to remove private property and they are separate from road safety who do a good job as far as I can see, Westminster also seem to have the smallest number of bike racks of any borough and seldom by the shops or facilities you might want to use.
There is an explanation that I am aware of for some of these signs, Westminster has the largest number of remaining original sand cast iron railings of any borough, as people will know these were mostly removed during WW2 for metal for the war effort except where they protected a drop as they often do in Westminster (a very real danger in the blackout), now being cast iron these are hard yet brittle, if you lock to them a thief can easily break the railings to get your bike, leaving the railings owner with an extremely expensive listed railing repair job.
So that's my understanding of some of the issues at least in Westminster...
