I am starting a project and need to get hold of some 700c clincher wheels to replace my rusted 27" pair. I would need them to fit a screw-on freewheel. I can come an collect if on the underground/overground. I haven't got a massive budget so they don't expect them to be in perfect condition.
Cheers,

Also are you sure the crank teeth are bent? They may be shaped to aid shifting. If they are uniform and look part of the casting process they arent bent, check with the LBS. Be a shame to lose the chainrings if they are orig
One of the teeth looks like it have been crushed, its almost folded over on itself. I agree its shame to lose the original chainrings, how much difference is one going to have?

I agree. Great little buy for fifty quid.I'm guessing circa 1987, and I also wouldn't powder coat. The seatpst might have a stamp on the side indicating it's diameter, but I'm guessing either a 27 or 27.2. The stem should be standard diameter - any quill should fit.
i have removed the handlebar stem and its stamped with 21.2mm, this seems odd as all the info i have read suggests that this is a bmx size, not a road/touring bike. Could they have used a smaller stem? Not sure if its the original, i suspect not.

oubt that the stem and handlebar were original to this bike, usually it should have drop bar and brake hood lever, the red cabling is probably the owner's choice after changing the handlebar set-up.
It does look like the handlebar isn't original, the gear levers have been mounted on it which i think looks messy. Will definitely change the bars for something a more comfortable and consider new wheels, having to get new brakes isn't too much of a problem.
Ed, where did you get the front rack on your girlfriends bike from? Really great looking bike.

The Gold Medal was a touring bike, and was usually made in 531ST. 531c wouldn't really be up to that kind of treatment, and I thought it was the more sporty bikes like the Helium, Italia, America and maybe the Harrier that were made from the lighter tubing. Nonetheless, I think it would make a great fixed (much like the one I've got hanging up in my cellar waiting for a conversion).
I saw another orbit gold medal on ebay which looks a lot smarter than mine: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORBIT-GOLD-MEDAL-VERY-LIGHT-ALU-HB-STEM-HUBS-BRAKES-/330535570700?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item4cf5748d0c#ht_1183wt_1135
I cant see if its a 531c frame or not but looks like it could be a bit newer than mine.
I just want to turn it into something that looks nice and is comfortable to ride, handlebars will be first thing.

PS this should be moved to Current Projects
I have no idea how to move this to current projects; sorry for posting in the wrong area.
I'm really pleased is haven't paid too much for it, I was worried that it wouldn't be worth anything. I like the colour of the bike, too many red cables all over it at the moment for my taste. Not keen on the black stem or bars but i guess that could be easily changed along with the seatpost and saddle.
A couple of the teeth on the crank are bent so i was thinking i would have to replace that. I don't really like that the gears are on the handlebar, i think it looks a bit messy.
I was thinking of having it coated as the frame isn't that tidy, its not terrible but would like it to be shiny!

I have just bought this bike for £50, don't know if i have paid way over the odds for it(i hope not). Its a 21inch frame, 531c and 531 forks. Its pretty ugly at the moment with the red cables and dynamo wires but hope to strip it all down and get it powder coated. Does anyone know where i can find out any info for this bike? I cant see the serial number, no idea how old she is.
I am new to all this so how will i find of the measurements for seat post and handlebar stem?
Any advice would be really helpful.

Hello,
Posted this is Bikes & Bits, sorry i think that was the wrong place.
Has anyone heard of Orion before? I have been told it was a UK company, cant find anything for it online though. I am thinking of a buying a ladies frame which is made by them, reynolds 531c. Does that sound like it would be any good? I want to rebuild it so i guess as long as the frame is in good nick it doesn't matter too much. I just don't want to buy it and then realise that i have been had.Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
