I think they are anodised...
I assumed he used the emery paper to remove it instead of caustic soda, wasn't very clear there, obviously it removes deeper marks, and sorry Malaysian, I'm pretty sure anodising doesn't happen over time and does indeed require electricity.
Saturday night, correcting people on the internet, when I'm not 100% sure anyway, dream big.caustic soda didn't work, used same concentration that stripped my chainring ring in seconds, they only thing that started to react was the threads, not ideal... so promptly took it out and got to work with emery paper, not great for getting in the milled bits, but with a bit of elbow grease, i'll get there... also used autosol to polish it up, amazing stuff!

It depends on the type of paint you use for each, some clear coats are acrylic which may not work with enamel (not sure about this, may be best to ask the guys at the store or search online). i used some spray paint, then used the wrong type of clearcoat and it just stayed tacky, never really dried.. absolute nightmare to get off aswell!
i would advise testing on a piece of metal/plastic you have lying around.

Heres my newly polished campy strada crank arm. I was a bit nervous starting out on this, going at a crank with emery paper is scary! I'm really happy with how its come out though, so shiny!!
I thoroughly recommend anyone that has the patience to sit down for a couple of hours and sand away to do this, really comes up nice!

the tyre will be black soon. I bought the wheels with tyres. ;)
The headset had to be like this :(
I had two (a black one and a silver one). The black didn't fit the fork. This silver one did. But than the fork hasn't the same measure of "rosca" (sorry! don't know the english word)
i did not want to buy a new one so i had to work with what i hadha, fair enough, we all have to make do somehow! would like to see a pic when its finished...

that guy is AMAZING! (not as amazing as the guy filming who clearly realises this is comedy gold...)
