Look man they do look similar and they do have the same tubing. Your right it's not a copy but there has clearly been some influence down the road.
Ha...The ONLY similarity is the seat cluster...and as i said, BMW have been doing that since day one...neither they OR Standard were the first to do it...so why are you so adamant that Standard HAD to be the influence?
The use of supertherm is irrelevant too as again Standard aren't the only people using it, It's used because it's good tubing for the purpose...and the new supertherm Gangsta wasn't the first model...it's been around for 5 years...You can't say it's a copy frame for using the same tubing as other people when they just switched to it 5 years down the road. :]
-
-
Are you serious? Proportions of tubing, large dropouts...etc....BMW didn't start 5 years ago with the Gangsta...they've been building bikes with the same proportions and large dropouts and pierced tubes for about 15 years...the Gangsta is just using the same features they've always used because they know what works. Look at BMW's own bmx's and jump frames from back when they first started...The Gangstas main tubing came from their Jump frames.
-
Ed, the copy is not from the 700c, they dont have/made one. but if you look the pics of the BMX one you can see that the Gangsta has lots of similarities

look the seattube cluster, one of the more distintive things from teh Gangsta ...., that frame is from 1998
But BMW have used pierced top tubes right from their first frame. There are no other similarities between the two as they're different types of frame.

Magic! Large, knockoff sta copy for mega dollar (ok it uses true temper tubing).
You think standard were the first people to use pierced top tubes?
And it's not a BMX so are you basing your 'knockoff sta copy' comment purely on a pierced tube?
It's different tubing, different geo, a completely different type of bike. There have been hundreds of bikes with pierced tubes.
The 14 ESB as Rik mentioned is actually £58O and that's without having to take into account import costs etc, yet it's still a production line tig welded frame.
£5OO for a supertherm main tubed frame with forks that rides as nicely as the BMW is well worth it in my book. -

I just read a great Interview with John Stamstad, who I spoke about in the first post of this thread.
I mentioned before that he held the record for the most miles ridden off road in 24 hrs which stands at 354.5 miles...however...I now know the full story as John tells it.
Apparently he already held the record, which he set on a 'proper', challenging MTB course.
But then a woman called Amy Regan from Maine claimed that she almost beat his record...and would have if she hadn't been given the wrong information and stopped too early.
According to John, she'd found a really easy course which met the criteria of 2O,OOft of climbing and an unsealed surface, but was far less challenging.
John was so pissed off at her claims and general lack of respect for his achievement that he went and rode the course she'd found and smashed her distance by adding over a hundred miles on top of it.
He then tried to get both his new record and hers struck from the record books and his original distance to be used instead, as he didn't feel the easier course was in the true spirit of MTBing. :]Just to add to his legendary status even more, the interview also mentioned the time when he ran around Moab's 1O3 mile White rim trail, non stop, and unsupported.
Water is so scarce in the area that he had to carry it all with him.
In typical Stamstad fashion he solved this little problem by hot-rodding his childs push chair.
He replaced the wheels with big fat MTB wheels, loaded it up with 5Olbs of sloshing water, then proceeded to push it around for 27hrs in temperatures over 1OOdeg. :]Stamstad is a true legend!

Anyone who was considering ordering some of the redesigned Blazewear rider gloves....Don't just yet.
I just received my pair yesterday and there is what i consider to be a major problem.
Sadly they went ahead with production without sending me a pair of the prototypes, and it was impossible to see the fault on the picture they sent me.There are a couple of other little things i could have pointed out too if I'd seen them in the flesh.
Shame really because they could have been really good.
I'm waiting for a reply from them to get their opinions.Disappointed. :[

You go on about privacy and then move a thread containing everyone else's post into a public forum and then bounce it through all forums so everyone can see everything, thus breaking the expectations that they have that things posted in that area of the forum are in fact private. Cute.
As for this bullshit...at what point during the 8hrs that i was asking for my name to be removed from the OP did you consider MY privacy?
YOU started the fucking thread...with MY name on it...if you hadn't done that then nobody would have been able to post in it in the first place.Seriously, Privacy has to work both ways David.
FUCK IT!!!

...I also had no ability to close the thread....unfortunately for you though VB, i still had the ability to move it.
Seriously...I've not even read your PM yet...but if you think it's ok to start a thread in my name and then give me no option to close it or delete it...then leave it there for 8hrs after me asking several times for it to be sorted then you must be fucking stupid.
The only time you've topped that one was when i asked you to delete my alias's so that i could just use my Archie's Grobags account...but instead of that you fucking merged all my accounts so that everything i ever posted under any name was suddenly 'said' by Archie's Grobags...which was the account i only EVER used for my bag thread. My post count went from a few hundred to about 7OOO in one fell swoop.
You also did that knowing it couldn't be undone, and also without checking with me first.Seriously...I don't know what your fucking problem is with me lately...and to be honest, I don't fucking care anymore!
Enjoy the 'new' forum!

could you pls stop posting those crippled MTB crap?
Could all those people who keep acting like THEIR version of bike porn is the only one worthy of seeing 'pls' stop being such whining little pantie wastes!
I'm bored shitless of seeing old track bikes constantly being posted on here but i don't post a whiney little plea for it to stop after each one.
Look at the percentage of 'crippled MTB crap' to old track bikes on here...hardly an even split is it? Even Edscobles attempts to post every bike in the world that's ever had a pair of moustache bars fitted outweighs the 'crippled MTB crap'.If you only want to look at skinny wheels fuck off to a road forum 'pls'.

Talking of E stay bikes I saved up for what seemed like an eternity in 1990/91 to buy one of these:

Am i right in thinking it had a hammered paint finish?
Funny thing about the Yeti was that it was originally made for a magazine article to create the 'ultimate' bike.
It was only when it received so much attention that Yeti decided to produce it.
Always loved the old Yeti's though. -

I know, but the G-Box was there to a: reduce unsprung mass and b: remove chain reaction from the suspension equation, and it turns out that those things are not important enough to overall performance to make the effort worthwhile.
Which i guess is why it was short lived.
Not that Honda ever wanted to produce them anyway.
One did sell on ebay a while ago though...'minus gearbox'. :] -

This is fucking hilarious! :]
