Community Cycleworks (CCW) are hosting paid stand time in their container workshop for those who want to work on their bike but don't have the tools or space to do so. There are experienced mechanics onhand to help with queries, one to one, so you won't have to worry about waiting around for someone to ask.
Parts are available to buy, but we do not have extensive stock - there is a mix of new and secondhand parts, and we cover all the generic/common items: almost every inner tube size - Presta/Schrader, square taper bottom bracket, rim brake pads and B01S (equivalent) disc pads. If you want to enquire about parts, please email us at info@ccw.bike.17:30-19:30
4x 30 min slots, at £12.50 each.More info:
This event is ideal for those who:- want to work or learn in an uninterrupted environment
- have a bike project that they want to do, but no place/tools/mechanical help to do it
- are preparing their bikes for an event (like a cycle tour) and want to do it themselves and understand what is happening to their bikes
- and more!
Most industry tools are available including the infamous Rozone parts washer to get the stubborn London grime off your bike. Learn from our experienced mechanics and leave empowered knowing that you can fix it yourself.
Four slots are available for each session:
Slot 1 - 17:30-18:00
Slot 2 - 18:00-18:30
Slot 3 - 18:30-19:00
Slot 4 - 19:00-19:30Two tickets are available for each slot - for two workstands and two mechanics, ideal if you want to be there with a friend.
If you want to book for the whole session, please book all four slots. We will ask you to vacate the workstand at the end of your slot if there is someone else booked in after you.
Guidelines for common repairs:
Fixing things for the first time by yourself? Expect that it will take 3x longer than if an experienced mechanic does it (e.g. in the local bike shop). Using this, we estimate the following:Puncture repair - 60-90 mins (this is dependent on your tyre/rim combo, e.g. Schwalbe Marathon Plus tend to be notorious for getting on and off!)
Brake pad change and adjustments - 60 mins
Brake adjustments only - 30 mins
Brake cable change (for ONE brake) - 30 minsGear cable change and minor adjustments - 30-60 mins
Gear indexing - 60-90 mins
Chain change - 30 mins
Chain and cassette/freewheel change - 60 minsBearings
Bottom bracket change - 60-90 mins
Wheel hub service (for ONE wheel) - 60 mins
Headset bearings change only - 60 mins
Headset replacement - 60-90 minsIf you have any questions, please email info@ccw.bike.

Hello!
Hayley here from Community Cycleworks.
We are hosting an emergency/last-min jumble sale on Saturday 25th May, to clear out the old workshop ahead of its closure next Friday. We don't want to scrap lots of usable bike parts and frames etc!
A heads up: they’re all secondhand, various conditions (cosmetic damage etc) but usable. Think pub/beater/rat bike style. If you’ve got a project you want to finish, and need a cheap part, this could be perfect.
It will be hosted in the tarmac area round the back of the old workshop (285 Albany Rd, SE17 5AH), on the BMX track side - https://what3words.com/decent.blasts.hits
Likely 16:30-18:30, or until most parts are gone. There will be (somewhat) organised piles of bike parts, frames, forks, wheels, tyres, and project bikes to get rid of, grouped by price, £1/2/3/5/10, and higher priced items will be tagged/labelled accordingly.
Frames and project bikes will likely be £10/20/30/40/50 unless otherwise specified.
We are also asking round local/London/Sussex/Surrey-based bike projects to see if the parts are of use to anyone. If you know anyone or an organisation that would love to take secondhand parts, please let me know.

I’ve found a wheel with a 16t freewheel on it already, good condition. Gear inches for that is 62.59. I used to ride 44/18 which is 64.17 and that was grand for getting up hills, though I have fairly strong legs. Perhaps starting with the 16t and if I find a 15t, I can bring it at a later date.
I’m available to meet with the wheel, and the 14T freewheel too if needed, this evening or anytime Sunday and Monday. Otherwise we’l we can find a day and time
-
We have a 14t and 15t freewheel at work.
15t is 66.54gi
14t is 71.27giI can bring either, and can meet anywhere central tomorrow evening.
@grm whereabouts are you located? Ill be working SE5 tomorrow and can bring cargo bike to pick up and take to central (I live central so it’s no bother) if that’s convenient?

Are you still looking?
My work has a slightly ratty frame (and forks, stem, original BB, and seatpost clamp). Seatpost is seized and currently working on getting it out with a Rozone parts washer. It's absolutely beautiful otherwise and I'm sad to not be able to keep it for myself!
Measurements (CTC):
Seat tube 55cm
Top tube 54cmIt's similar to this one, and below I've got some pics:
-
I need to measure it up and still sorting the BB out, but I have a GT Tequesta in marbled blue colourways. Similar to this, but more ratty:
https://store.bicycleczar.com/v/vspfiles/photos/03120153-2.jpg?v-cache=1352194449What condition are you expecting? Also are you after fully built or just F&F (and original components like stem, BB, seat clamp)?

Top tier tricks by these German women, based in Berlin:
Lara - @lookmumnohand - artistic riding, always pushing herself to the next level, and master of trackstands
Clara - @dailyshitofmalife - it's never a normal trackstand with Clara. Recently unlocking the triple bar spin too, and master of fish 'n' chips, she's showing the world that it's not just the guys who can do cool jibbs. For London based:
Aina - @aina_debesy - riding backwards in circles like it's nobody's business. Also some no handed track stands in there
Alex - @flying__saucers - currently in Spain, but soon to be back. Great trackstanding - no handed, standing up, foot on front wheel.
Alenka - @markyza_de_canterville - fearless surfer and skidder who's not afraid to be in front of the camera -
This could be worth looking at, however it's 700c wheels - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/377393/#comment16583228

Did a quick snoop on @debe26's profile and the bike sold two days ago.
To answer your Qs (for reference, I did a long trip 2018-2020, UK->Aus):
1) What is the best way to buy second hand bikes here? Facebook
marketplace? Ebay? This site? Something else? What about bike bags?
Ideally I’d want them second hand if there’s a market for itTargeting all locations is a good shout - LFGSS, FB, eBay, Gumtree.
Bike bags - Would start with LFGSS and eBay as these tend to have the most listings out of the four. Decent brands to look for:- Ortlieb
- Apidura
- Alpkit
- Wizard Works
- Miss Grape - special mention as they're especially good for smaller frames. I think some bags are on sale on freshtripe (sorry this isn't secondhand).
2) I’m looking to buy a bikepacking / gravel bike with a small frame
and ideally 27.5inch wheels because I’m not too tall (164cm). Anyone
selling a surly?May be hard to find something with 27.5" wheels. Also might get into a pickle if something goes wrong (e.g. tyre tear, ran out of inner tubes/patches) however in Western and Central Europe, you shouldn't be hard pressed to find a decent bike shop. And even if you're way out east on a world tour, and something goes wrong (with anything on the bike), as long as you have the funds to wait out a few weeks while parts get posted out to you, you'll be fine.
3) I’d love recommendations for routes you’ve loved starting roughly
in the west of France and going anywhere, I don’t like too much time
on highways ideally. I have 2.5 months before I have to be out of the
Schengen zone (most of the EU) but I am going to try and find a way to
extend.Like @Sig_Arlecchino mentioned, the Eurovelo routes are excellent, and well signposted in France and Germany. The canal system in France is great away-from-highways riding. I followed the Eurovelo 6 from the Tours in France to Lake Konstanz in Germany and it was really nice riding albeit a bit boring when flat (for me).
Croatia is a relatively close-by non-Schengen zone country and is also beautiful to explore, with many islands to go on. You could do a loop of the non-Schengen countries, going down the coast then back up inland and re-enter Schengen maybe in Hungary. Many possibilities for how you plan the route. Also - trains are a lot cheaper in continental Europe so don't be afraid to skip parts if it isn't as enjoyable, or if there's a more enticing place to be! Most generally need a bike ticket too but still way cheaper than the UK.
DM me if you have any further questions, I posted a fair bit on my IG accounts throughout (@groovyriderbikeninja and @ahahahayley).
Best of luck! - Ortlieb
