You can bust out all the hypotheticals you like, but what's the most distilled take on the responsibility of operating a motor vehicle?
The person in control of the dangerous equipment is responsible for controlling it - it's pretty fucken simple. Stuff like ensuring you have right of way, and that the way is clear, before you move off is absolutely fucking basic shit. We don't need a law against phones. We just need a law about paying enough attention to control the dangerous equipment.
I mean what the fuck. It doesn't need to be this hard.

Today it's the thread for exploring nuance:
As the initiator of the Mikey is a cunt derail, I've always been something of a car guy.
But, I've always thought internal combustion and car-centrism are entirely stupid, and am militantly opposed to the marginalisation of cycling.
I'm hard, hard left (I don't believe in the private sector; everything should be governed by everyone), but could also describe myself as a staunch libertarian - there needs to be a law against laws which aren't absolutely necessary.
Mikey is on a mission for a heart-rending reason - all power to him for that (wasn't aware of his backstory), and may he inspire an army of militant defenders of vulnerable road users, but I'm damn sure he's applying faulty assessment criteria.
Anyone who invokes the state against another citizen, and crosses the line between - protecting others from a menace | using flaws in the system to multiply their own menace by the power of the state, can fuck right off.
Through this lens, an act like this puts Mikey in the same basket as the vile corporate filth who own our governments, bringing us this car-dominated burning of Gaia at the stake in the first place.

Using a phone reduces your reaction times as a driver in the same way, if not worse.
What kind of reaction time do you need when stationary, and what if you're too slow?
Oh gee, the drivers behind might get pissed off. Sticklers can get in the fucking sea. Rules have reasons, and it's the reasons which matter, not the fucking rules themselves. Carrying on like the above has any relevance when the dude is stationary is little more than an excuse to perpetuate tribal animosity between cyclists and motorists.

110 in Cairns
WTAF
This does not compute in the slightest.
Until this claim I was 100% certain we had uniform national standards for one, but then there's the fact my old man lived there for 15-20 years so I've been there a bunch of times, yet never got wind of it.
???
...Yeah nah, you've gotta be tripping. There's no way.

Do not be tempted to yank at it, the key is to keep the pressure on and increasing it.
This is the go, if you don't have a tool you can hook up a rattle gun to. Way less torque required for impact (I guess there are instantaneous peaks that are pretty high, but the torque reaction off the tool is minimal due to its inertia).
