Hi @skydancer, thanks for sharing this - I volunteered for a year with Cycling Without Age (a similar charity in Copenhagen), but hadn't come across RBSB before! The video made me smile. I've just sent you an email with a few questions, and look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks :)

Running in the rain: I wear an innov8 ultra shell in the rain, but I run v hot and create a lot of moisture on the inside of the jacket even when it's chilly out. I'm wondering if maybe I need a different base layer? I always wear a a LS merino under it – would a synthetic layer be better at wicking sweat away under the rain shell? I stopped buying synthetic baselayers a while ago as I could never seem to get rid of the smell of sweat after a year or so of wearing it, and found that merino never smells..

I've just to Stratford/West Ham, so I now have a flat, paved and (relatively) uninterrupted running route along the Greenway to play on. Just ran my fastest 5k (23.03) which I'm quite pleased with. Any tips for getting faster? Might set myself an arbitrary goal of a 22.30 5K by the end of lockdown..

Edit: Just realised 23.03 was my elapsed time – 5k was actually 22.53

I did Race to the Stones 100k in 2019 – it's a lovely undulating route and was a perfect ultra entry point for me (though a big step, as I'd never even run a marathon before that...). I suffered from hip pain throughout the training, and then knee pain about a month before the run, so stopped any long runs in the month leading up to it... before that point, I would run a fast 5k, 2 x comfortable 10k runs, and then a steady 30k run weekly. I probably should've done more, but I felt like those runs were already a squeeze.

I ran one 50k run (the longest of my training) about 6 weeks before RTTS, and kept stretching and rolling throughout, as well as exercises for my hips as suggested by a physio. Probably not the best advertisement for training, but it definitely felt like mind over matter for me!

Glad to hear you're on the mend.

It seems highly unlikely that this will go ahead, but if no one else takes it (please someone else take it), then I may be up for it...

I keep it in the breast pocket of my fleece (ie next to my base layer). I’m moving to Canada this year and want something I can rely on!

Maybe it’s just that the battery is on its way out - could probably do with an upgrade. @Greenbank I’m not sure how to check the battery health?
Edit: found battery health, but it says it’s ‘unable to determine battery health’...

Does anyone have any tips for stopping an iPhone dying in cold weather? It seems that each time I take my phone out when I'm outdoors at the moment, the battery drains in an instant and it switches off (was using running in -4c on Dartmoor the other day and needed it for navigation so was pretty annoyed when it switched off!).

This always happens when I'm skiing so I've got a hefty battery pack with me in case of emergencies, but I'd prefer something a bit lighter. I always wear it close to my body, but the second I take it out and try to use it, it dies... Are any of the newer iPhone models less likely to drain in cold weather? Or is there some sort of thermal case I can get?

    Thanks
