    Hi all,

I've been lurking on here for a few years and have recently opened up a bike shop in New Zealand. As a small independent bike shop we are constantly competing with larger, more established shops for visibility and recognition.

To try and promote ourselves, along with other independent shops around the country, we are hoping to create an independent bike shop network. We hope that this can act as a platform for us to communicate between shops, promote each other and also serve as an indicator of quality.

We're currently in the initial stages of researching and putting together a proposal. I'm not looking for recommendations but was wondering if anyone knows of something similar anywhere else? We don't have anything locally but I can't imagine we're the first people to have this idea.

Partner has shown some interest in getting a mountain bike so have gotten this on-one for a long term loan. Current plan is to spend as little as possible so the bulk of it will remain unchanged. Stem is getting swapped out for a Thomson and fork is getting a service, and will see from there.

Long term plan involves new wheels and a dropper but now doesn't seem like the right time to be buying big ticket items.

The Cotic is probably due for fenders as well, but only just got these Vittorias fitted up so going to run them while the sun is still shining. Also refitted my stayer/@Hulsroy stem and some fresh camo tape.

Bikes come and go but really can't see any reason I'd ever shift this one. Have just recabled everything along with a brake rebuild + fresh rotors and pads and I swear it's never been better.

Went and winterised my partners rockhopper. Installed a pair of GB stainless steel fenders, swapped the stem for something even taller and shorter and also trying out some slightly wider bars.

Feels like a bit of a tank at the moment so hoping to swap tyres out for a pair of Marathon Supremes, as well as swapping the Surly front rack for a canti rack/wald combo.

New Zealand is in full lock down which means the shop is closed and I'm at home. No new bikes, but thought I'd throw repost the big bike.

Out of the box the Honzo doesn't make a huge amount of sense (to me) with a steep head angle and short travel fork. Since buying it I've replaced both the airshaft and the damper on the fork bumping it up to 160mm of travel. I've also gone ahead and installed a -2° angleset, swapped the brakes out for some 4 piston TRP Quadiems and rebuilt the rear wheel on to a Stans Flow ex after the oem one gave up on life.

This all adds up to a bike that weighs more than most full suspension rigs, while still being a handful as soon as the trail gets rough. But on the flipside it's very low maintenance, reliable and cheap.

Planning on running it singlespeed for the winter but that's going to have to wait till after the lockdown...

    Thanks! Very happy with it.

Here are a few builds we've had through recently I thought people might be in to. It's been so much fun helping people get on to some cool bikes!
