Excellent - he's looking for his new cat pal.

Which is often because they're hideously understaffed because most of their staff have been pinged. 20-min 6-deep queues at the bar will not alleviate this.

Not sure it does - kinda like sailing, you're on your feet for a wee bit of it only. And diving is just falling off two feet.

Nah the horsey jumpy show is what the public want.

Show some deference, sonny - these are the sports your betters do.

A few times now couldn't have a pint because I didn't take my phone to the pub.

    Tactically avoiding getting pinged?

It's a real science for distance swimmers - needing to take on a mix of water, hot drinks, energy-dense foods that you can imbibe really quickly and your body can handle while constantly swimming. Feeds are usually done hourly and last 20 seconds max as every second you're not swimming, you're drifting. A lot of Channel training involves experimenting with nutrition. Probably a bit more straightforward for the 10km swimmers.

Think there was a 10-yr old male gymnast in about 1908, but yeah, must be the youngest post-WW2?

How do you think people get across the Channel in cold water without fuelling? I know people who’ve taken over 20 hrs to cross, that’s a heavy required food intake. I also know of a Japanese swimmer whose food stops involved treading water eating bowls of noodles - with chopsticks!
